Elton John Announces South Florida Show at BankAtlantic Center on March 9

Elton John, AKA Captain Fantastic.

​There was a time when Elton John dressed (and acted) like the teenage lovechild of Liberace and Vegas-era Elvis on a helium bender.

Bedazzled in silver jumpsuits with his face behind massive sunglasses and his feet stuffed into patent-leather platform moon boots, the fabulously balding Captain Fantastic would screech and scream while performing three-quarter handstands atop the keyboard of his rhinestone-studded piano.

Curiously, those were the days when John was still kinda closeted and totally married to a woman. And now that he's an out-and-proud gay icon, his signature style is sadly "Ellen Degeneres's older sister."

Still, the sing-alongs will be out-of-control when Sharon (the pet name bestowed upon him by Rod Stewart) and his baby grand bust out the hits at the BankAtlantic Center on Friday, March 9.

In fact, according to the official hype, "Elton John and his band put on the kind of concert you will never forget: the entire audience standing, dancing, and singing along with much-loved classic songs such as 'Your Song,' 'Rocket Man,' 'Bennie and the Jets,' 'Philadelphia Freedom,' 'Crocodile Rock,' 'Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me,' and many more."

Sure, there won't be any handstands, silver jumpsuits, or helium huffing. But there will be plenty of "Honky Cat" and lesbian haircuts!
