Zola Jesus, Goth-Pop Diva and David Lynch Muse, Live at Bardot Miami on February 9

​Is 21-year-old Nika Roza Danilova (AKA operatically trained goth-pop diva Zola Jesus) more than just a needle in 2012's vast haystack of gloomy synth music?

Film director, transcendental meditation evangelist, and total pie guy David Lynch certainly thinks so. In fact, Lynch enjoys ZJ's digital death rock spin on Kate Bush so much that he asked to remix "In Your Nature," her latest single from last year's Conatus LP. Recently, Danilova told Pitchfork that she normally doesn't do remixes. But, uh, this is David Lynch.

What exactly did the director find so captivating about his latest muse?



"In Your Nature" typifies Zola Jesus's distinguished integration of her classically trained, deep and soulful vocals with pop-saavy Hounds of Love synthscapes twirling on sheets of icy, sometimes industrial electronic music.



Lynch's interpretation reveals a bias toward the warmer components of Zola Jesus. His mix lands somewhere between Beck's production work for Charlotte Gainsbourg and dub 45s at a Sunday barbecue.

The best part about Lynch's co-sign is it seems Danilova is opening up to the art of remixing. Maybe when she's in town this February for Sweat Records and Bardot's Living Room Sessions, we can arrange some studio time with DJ Khaled?

C'mon, Nika. Just let him get in one "We the best!"
