Better Than: Babysitting a real infant.

The spunky, enigmatic, and clearly grown-up Kid Sister is still trying to break out of the underground.

The real little sis of Flosstradamus's Joey Young, she got her start working the mic at the duo's monthly dance parties in Chicago, since collaborating with Kanye West, Estelle, Gucci Mane, and Cee Lo.

But even with all her famous friends and underground hits, she's yet to conquer the charts. And her Saturday night performance at Grand Central had to be held back until after 2 a.m., just to ensure the dance floor filled up before she blew her load.

The crowd seemed a bit restless by the time opening act Riff Raff hit the stage. And he left more people confused than hyped up. It's hard to tell if his songs about Marc Jacobs, haters, and rice are jokes or just unintentionally bizarre. Either way, most people were happy to see Kid Sister when their collaborative track "Hide N' Seek" hit the speakers.

She stormed the stage, swaggin' in dark shades and smiling at the crowd from behind the mic. She ripped through a few of her featured tracks with Flosstradamus before going into her earliest single, "Control," as she made it rain from her water bottle.

"I've got to cool this shit off. It's hot down here in Miami," Sister said as she tossed the rest of the bottle into the crowd. And then she rapped over her big brother's remix of Major Lazer's "Original Don" before getting into some new-new.

From the sound of it, her new album will be just as hyphy and juked up as her previous work with lots of fast beats and catchy choruses. Hip-hop heavy hitters Scoop De Ville and the Neptunes are supposed to have a big hand in the production. So maybe a big hit's on deck.

Kid Sister repped her hometown of Chicago hard throughout her set, letting Miami know she loved us, but wouldn't trust us to do her hair. After all, she's fancy, and she posed to let fans take flicks of her perfectly manicured hands as she went into her biggest hit, "Pro Nails."

She played her Chicago jukin' song "Switchboard," going ham in her designer heels. And then almost as quickly as she took the stage, it was all over. All in all, Kid Sister was up there for about 30 minutes. But she squeezed a lot of jams into the short set. Here's hoping the new album brings her enough hits to make it a full hour next time.

Critic's Notebook

Personal Bias: I got there much too early and found the set much too short.

The Crowd: Fresh and sexy 20-somethings trying to get their groove on.

Random Detail: Big ups to the guy on the dance floor with the sweet moves and the bull horn hat.
