Avicii Brings "Levels," Philanthropy, and PLUR to Ultra Music Festival on March 24

Rising Swedish star Avicii is one of the hottest DJ-producers in contemporary house music. His massive hit "Levels," which samples recently deceased Etta James's "Something's Got a Hold on Me," gets so much play that it's almost become obnoxious. But before you start hating on the guy for no reason besides his sexy beats, take into consideration his budding commitment to philanthropy.

In a grand gesture to give back to the country that's embraced him whole-heartedly, Avicii and his manager Ash Pournouri have put together a month-long tour and announced the House for Hunger initiative with plans to donate $1 million in gig fees to Feeding America, the nation's leading domestic hunger relief charity.

"When Ash first approached me with the idea for House for Hunger tour ... there was no question this was something I thought we should be a part of," the DJ said in his official statement. "I feel very fortunate to be in a position where I actually can help and make a difference, especially to a country that's given me so much."

According to the Huffington Post, Avicii even took time out from his whirlwind life of bottle poppin' and beat droppin' to personally serve mashed potatoes and meatloaf to needy folks in New York City's Chinatown. That's PLUR in action.

Shannon Traeger, media relations associate for Feeding America, said none of the money has been donated just yet. Avicii plans to earn the $1 million and hand it over in one giant donation after he wraps his current tour in April.

But Miami doesn't have to wait till then. Those lucky enough to have snagged tickets to this year's Ultra Music Festival can still catch him on Saturday, March 24, feeding the crowd a hearty helping of fiery beats. Dance your hearts out, and rage assured that Avicci is sharing that good feeling with people who really need it.

Ultra Music Festival 2012. Friday, March 23, to Sunday, March 25. Bayfront Park, 301 Biscayne Blvd., Miami. Tickets are sold out. Visit ultramusicfestival.com.
