Deadmau5's WMC 2012 Closing Party at Amnesia Miami: Rats, Bangers, No Madonna

There's house concerts. Then there's Deadmau5.

As one of the closing events to the week-long spectacle known as Winter Music Confererence and Miami Music Week, tickets at the door for Deadmau5's gig ran $150.

But that didn't stop thousands of house music junkies from packing Amnesia Miami's dancefloor and VIP areas to the brim as the King Rat took the stage around 1:40 a.m.

If, however, you were expecting to hear pop hits like Rihanna's "We Found Love" and David Guetta's "Titanium," which played all over the place all week long, you'd have been sadly disappointed.

And if you wanted to hear Mr. Mau5 call Madonna "a fucking idiot," you were gonna have to wait till Monday morning.

"Hardly anyone in the industry can do what [Deadmau5] does," Feed Me told Crossfade after following the King Rat's two-hour set on Sunday night. "He takes songs and sounds that are underground and makes them pop. There's no need even for vocals or guest artists."

And indeed, everyone was rabidly excited about Deadmau5 and his signature headgear.

Since his debut in 2005, the Canadian-born DJ has turned the Mau5head into an international symbol of pure electro house without so-called "selling out." And this particular night, he chose a silver model with glowing, white eyes that gazed out over a crowd wielding miniature Mau5head-shaped glowsticks.

"We usually go even more underground," said Feed Me, referring to the sets he and Deadmau5 had just finished. "We love to perform in Miami. The crowds here know their music."

The Sunday crowd sure did know the Mau5's biggest hit, "Ghosts N Stuff," even as he slowly blended it in, break by break. The first hint of that signature, song-starting horn brought a raging cheer from the crowd.

The cheers didn't stop there as Feed Me took the boards and The Frederik closed the show at 5:00 a.m. with the club still packed. Nearly a half-hour later, fans were still squeaking slowly out the doors.
