DJ Mehdi Tribute Mural Goes Up at Grand Central for WMC and Miami Music Week

R.I.P. DJ Mehdi.

​This past September, the world of dance music lost Mehdi Favéris-Essadi, an amazing DJ and producer at the age of 34.

Of course, Mehdi was no stranger to Winter Music Conference and Ultra Music Festival, having made several Miami appearances. And 2012 will mark the first time in several years that the Parisian DJ will not be here.

So in a touching tribute to the late Ed Banger alum, local Miami artist Luis Pinto, a finalist for this year's MasterMind award, painted a special mural on a wall in Grand Central's outside patio.

"I approached [Grand Central] a while back," says the 31-year-old Miami Beach artist and DJ. "Since I knew Busy P and his people would be there, I thought it would be a good idea."

Pinto says before he painted the mural, Grand Central asked him to get permission from Ed Banger honcho Busy P (AKA Pedro Winters) to make sure he'd be OK with it. After the project was approved, it only took Pinto three hours to complete.

The mural is not the only Mehdi tribute you'll hear about this year.

This Friday at the Standard Hotel in Miami Beach, Busy P and the Ed Banger crew will be hosting ♥ ∞ M (Love Forever Mehdi) party with A-Trak, Boys Noize, Brodinski, Busy P, Gesaffelstein, and Surkin behind the decks. Unfortunately, the event is limited to 200 spaces and RSVP has already closed.
