The ever-rolling bass waves created by the tectonic booty claps of Miami in the 80s have tsunamied through space-time and crashed across Canadian borders.

Low-end marauder and fresh-coast connoiseur Ill Gates is proof. And for his first-ever Miami show at The Vagabond on March 15, the Toronto native (who recently relocated to San Fran) is sure to bring a glitch-hop heavy bag of tricks that includes constant app-enabled improvisation.

Professor Gates will even be running a full production seminar at Sweat Records for $50 (including software) on the night before his show.

Boasting credentials that include heavy collaboration with Bass Nectar and releases on labels like Amorphous, you can be sure to learn a thing or two about a thing or two from Mr. Gates.

Shake promoter Jsin Jimenez says, "Glitch hop is big on the West Coast. But the bass scene has kind of taken off everywhere. There are no regional boundaries. This is music you can dance to and that girls like. There's a lot of hip-hop sampling and effect made on the fly. He's never been to Miami, so we've got people driving in from way up north."

Get Low, now in its 34th cycle of mega-crushing subwoofing, continues in its mission to promote bass in all its forms. This will not be a hardcore dubstep party. But according to Jimenez, "We're always trying to break new ground down here. This is our pre-WMC party for the locals, before all the out-of-towners come down to mess around."

Ill Gates' Production Seminar. Wednesday, March 16. Sweat Records, 5505 NE Second Ave., Miami. The workshop costs $50. Call 786-693-9309 or visit sweatrecordsmiami.com.

The Vagabond, 30 NE 14th St., Miami. The party starts at 10 p.m. and admission costs $10. Call 305-379-0508 or visit thevagabondmiami.com.
