Occupy Miami Fundraiser at Churchill's Pub on March 27! Join the Revolution!

Do you support the Occupy Miami movement but hate living in a half-abandoned Overtown apartment complex? Are you and/or your friends "dying to get arrested" in the name of socioeconomic equality but are short on bail money? Or do you just hate douchey frat boys who support Mitt Romney?

If you answered "Yes!" to any of the aforementioned questions, head over to Churchill's Pub on Tuesday, March 27, for the Occupy Miami Fundraiser. Together with Shallow Grave, Ness, Samsara, Seku Grey, Jen and the Urban Box, and Atajas, The Autonomous Playhouse will help raise funds to benefit the local Occupy movement.

According to a poster inside an Overtown apartment building now overtaken by former members of the downtown Occupy Miami camp, "rich people don't give a shit about you." That's a summation of the movement's underlying message.

From Occupy Miami's Mission:

Occupy Miami is not against the rich. We are against the rich being disproportionately catered to by politicians who are bought off before they're ever elected, through large campaign contributions. We are against there being two separate sets of rules - one set for the wealthy and powerful, and a different set for the rest of us.

In a nutshell, Occupiers want more financial-industry regulations and less political corruption. To achieve those goals, however, they need funds for ~~operating expenses, like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, late-night trips to 7-Eleven, toilet paper, etc~~ "pure activism, not paying for people's food," according to one of the fundraiser's co-organizers.

So swing by Churchill's after work and support Occupy Miami by sparing a few bucks. Stop penny pinching, you One Percenter.

people just have to wise up...its more than just rich people not giving a sh*t about you...rich people get rich off poor people...you consent to this with your money, so the real power is in your money, as little as it may be...dont spend it on drugs...only makes the rich richer...dont spend it in wal-mart...dont spend it on corporate garbage, whether food or entertainment...stop complying into the system that doesn't serve you. my two cents :)

okay...deep breath...as one of the creators of this event, i'd like to point out that this event does not benefit occupy miami or its dreadful apartment building which i have never been to and never intend to visit.

it is a fundraiser for occupy may 1st, which is an event that has been planned for miami by the occupy may 1st working group, which IS a recognized sub-group of occupy miami (although it has members of Occupy FtL too), and which is hoping to have a large march that we would like to able to make banners and some parade equipment for, and possibly rent a PA, stuff like that. while i cannot hold back new times' penchant for trashing occupy this post seems to value spite over any form of journalism i've ever heard of and should be retracted almost in its entirety for lack of any factual information.
