Eyehategod Ripped Hell Open at Churchill's Pub, Saw Satan Headbanging

​Eyehategod's first song at Churchill's opened a portal to hell. The whole club was transported to a world of fire and brimstone, demons and evil.

And you thought the bathrooms were bad before.

For an hour-and-a-half, the New Orleans sludge combo kept Miami so far underground, we actually saw the Devil headbanging.



The band opened up its vaults and played a marathon set with tracks spanning their nearly 25-year existence. Singer Mike IX encouraged the audience to do coke and go crazy as he ripped his vocal chords bloody while distorted blues licks rang through the club.

After the show

​ For all their slow doom intensity, Eyehategod can play to the circle pit too. They exposed their hardcore punk roots by speeding the beat up, triggering the crowd to mosh.

​ There was plenty of stage-diving, crowd surfing, horn throwing, and headbanging throughout the show, but no fights broke out, nobody left home on a stretcher, and people had a good time.

​ The band, who communicated song changes through hand signals, played one of their new tracks, "New Orleans Is The New Vietnam," off an upcoming record. It was heavy as fuck and the crowd went crazy. Then Mike said "Take a break. Go bump up. Grab a beer. We'll wait for you."

​ Then Eyeheategod kept on rockin' till around 3 in the morning. And when they finished, the doors to hell closed behind them, and the crowd spewed out into another hot night in Miami.
