Read our original report on DJ Laz's departure from WPOW -- plus Uncle Luke's comments on talking to DJ Laz about quitting Power 96.

First, a heartbreaking tweet that some interpreted as a cruel and belated April Fools' Day hoax.

"Rumors are true, I am no longer with Power 96," tweeted Miami's beloved DJ Laz. "I wish them all the best. And to my coworkers and friends, thank you for everything."

Confirmation that Lazaro Mendez and WPOW 96.5 had split followed shortly thereafter in the form of a press release issued by Power 96's parent company, Beasley Broadcasting Group. But questions still loomed.

Why did DJ Laz, 22-year veteran of the Miami airwaves, want to "explore other professional opportunities?" And why such a vague press release?

"The release is accurate," says Beasley Broadcast Miami Vice President & Market Manager Joe Bell via email. "Laz resigned to pursue other interests. You would have to ask [him] what they are."

DJ Laz has yet to return our phone calls or emails.

Bell, however, says the split was amicable.

"No hard feelings on either side that I'm aware of."
