Accused terrorist Jared Chase (far right, bandanna) thuggin' in Overtown with Occupy Miami.
Before his arrest for alleged terrorism in Chicago, the NATO 3's Jared Chase was a talented aspiring rapper, DJ, and sound engineer who claimed affiliation with a bevvy of record labels around the U.S., including Miami's own Slip-N-Slide Records.

We here at Crossfade put in a call to Slip-N-Slide, and a representative disavowed any and all knowledge of Jared Chase, or J-Chase as he also called himself.

"I've never heard of Jared Chase, or J Chase, or The Street Demon. The Slip-N-Slide DJs are a a coalition, or brotherhood, or fraternity of DJs. I have been with Slip N Slide for two years, and as far as I know I have never heard that name in my entire life."

He may have been affiliated with their now defunct online radio station.

Chase has 40 publicly available songs on his Soundclick page. He raps about getting high, shooting guns, and hating the police, which is something some of our favorite rappers do in their greatest hits.

Here are some of J-Chase's song lyrics from a track he recorded called "Off With Your Head (Freestyle)":

"Since the first time that I ever did time, back on the grind, now I'm back with them lines, dimes, nicks, and I' flippin' them bitch."

"Cruise through with your motherfuckin' crew, and they better have something to put something down, otherwise Ima put yo ass under the ground, with a thunderous sound, you never heard of the sound, that i pump with that motherfucker, full pound. Bap-bap to your motherfuckin' head, two shots leave your fuckin' ass dead, cuz."

"You couldn't touch me, fuck with me, you can't cut me. Come buck me motherfucker. What's up, bitch. Suck a motherfuckin' dick, trick. Do a flip before I have y'all motherfuckers on the street's dick."

"I'm a hardcore gangsta from the streets, and every motherfucker gon be deceased. When you move through with yo peeps, you better move quick and move through or Ima motherfuckin' shoot you dead."

"Two to the motherfuckin' sky, 'cause when the blood leaks, it's an apocalypse and y'all gon die."

"Mothafucker Ima split you, get you, lift you, off your motherfuckin' feet with a pistol. J-Chase and you can't touch this. And I gotta dick, so suck this."

"My lyrics take your crew and make you do them things you don't want to do. But I'm so sick on this mic, I'm so fuckin sick on this goddam mic. It's my time, it's my time, I won't stop. I won't stop an get these motherfuckin' guns cocked. Pop you down like I'm fuckin' Pac 'cause I won't be stopped by these bitch-ass cops."

"No motherfuckin bars could ever fuckin hold me .I'm an OG, homie. You a lonely bitch ass motherfucka wannabe."

"It's J-Chase, nicca. It's J Chase."

Now, we fully support his first amendment rights to freedom of speech and freedom of expression, and we're not convinced Chase was guilty of anything other than being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and we wouldn't be surprised if he was entrapped, framed, or otherwise falsely accused. And he is facing 85 years in prison.

Then again, he could indeed be a domestic terrorist. And we're no fans of terrorism.

"I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die."

Two days later MNT writes an article talking about how Johnny Cash should be brought to charges of murder.... Seriously Jacob and MNT, I can't even describe how bogus I find this article to be. I'm seriously keeping this article around so that when I'm explaining others how to write a balanced, well-researched piece your screed can serve as a good example of how NOT to write.

"He could indeed be a domestic terrorist."

Wow. How open-and-shut of a case there, detective. You cracked the whole thing by checking the man's Soundclick. Very impressive. Now check out this rhyme and write an article about it:

"You Investigative skills couldn't be more lax'A few picked lyrics but still no factsDistortion, foolery, and lies about crimesIs what you get in the Miami New Times"

"Then again, he could indeed be a domestic terrorist. And we're no fans of terrorism."

Actually, the MNT piece about the terrorist bombing of a Coral Gables travel agency made no condemnation of the act and concluded by quoting the governor on the evil of Cuba's government. Implicitly, the MNT condones right wing terrorism while delivering undue attention to the libeling kids entrapped by the federal government.    Let's be clear, the MNT supports terrorism when it comes from the police and the federal governement and opposes lawful political activities when they represent dissident opinions. This is as much a propaganda organ of the capitalist sysytem as Granma is of Cuban socialism.

As to journalism, I'm still waiting for the first piece to be produced in this city.

Any source, person, anything - that continues to support the use of Bush's word "Terror; Terrorists; Terrorism' Loses ANY credibility they had what so ever that shows they are an individual with the capability to have individual thoughts.

To continue to use this Bush word as you did in this article is to continue Bush ideology. Thank you new times.

"Then again, we are no fans of terrorism."

Do you even know what this word means? When you say terrorism, are you saying Post 9/11 Terrorism, that is, fabricated fear-as-crowd control, or are you talking about Merriam Websters Definition of terror?

I'm sure you are a great fan of the Patriot act as well.

"...and we wouldn't be surprised if he was entrapped, framed, or otherwise falsely accused..."

thanks for putting that at the end of the article. it's nice to see you guys admit that this article is nothing but a stupid time-wasting sensationalized excuse for journalism. did you guys really call Slip-N-Slide records...we're you hoping you'd get Trick Daddy to say, "Oh yeah... I knew he was all about blowing up cop cars. He had a real beef with Rahm Emanuel... since way back in the day."

why don't you guys run a story on people who play Grand Theft Auto 4 just to ram helicopters into cop cars? granted the dude's raps aren't my taste but if you're really going to use this nonsense to paint a possible motive for "committing domestic terrorism"...

so bad raps and a home beer-brewing kit he didn't even own is the only actual, un-circumstancial and tangible evidence toward labeling this kid a "domestic terrorist?" it's a sad story when the Chicago Sun-Times paints a more accurate portrayal of the case than the media outlet that operates right across the street from where these kids resided.

Then again, this could indeed just be bad journalism. And I'm no fan of bad journalism.

Your whole story and especially it's headline is MSM garbage/ irresponsible hack journalism...until the end, which you did out of necessity...you display little intellectual curiosity in searching for unbiased facts on the story as a whole and plenty of effort to spread a thinly veiled propaganda-prejudice in continuing the govt.-corporate narrative driven by it's crony-capitalist/globalist agenda...in other words...YOU ARE A TOOL,YOU SUCK.

He could be. So could i. So could you. So could Obama. So could ...   I personally know Jared Chase. I spent a bit of time with him in Occupy Boston's camp, washing dishes, hanging around. I found him to be a very gentle and genuine young man, and i liked him more than most people at the camp. I cannot imagine him hatching a plot like this. I *can* imagine him being entrapped into a plot and murmuring an "okay ... " reluctantly to seem "cool" to the undercovers, with no intention of following through ... and then being arrested and put in jail for life ... I can see that happening.  He wanted to be liked and his rap music follows the trends in rap music, and he wanted to seem tough ... street cred from this New Hampshire boy ... he got in a few tussles in the past ... he lived a small-time thug wannabe life, like a lot of people, and now he's a scapegoat as an example to destroy the Occupy movement.  I want to see the FACTS in this case, what does the government have?  We'll never really know what happened despite the illusion of an open system of law. I know, having been framed on felonies by Hartford police who baldly lied on their police reports, in collusion, and stole our videotapes.  It happens and i think i happened to Jared Chase now. We need facts, not conjecture by people who didn't know him. I like him and I know he was happy to have a chance to make the world a better place, and he may have acted "thuggish" to be liked but so what?

Unless you define it properly, and then apply it to the state as well as any other group that uses fear of violence and other severe consequences as a way of limiting people's ability to openly speak their minds or live their lives freely. By that definition, Bush's government was the biggest terrorist in the world at the time he was using the word.

Jacob Katel

Terrorism as in the willful destruction of people or property through violence whether committed by an individual or a government.

What's funny is that in every other article that's been written, nobody else bothered to shed light on what was probably one of the biggest parts of his life, a love of music.

Now you have a direct link to 40 songs you may have never heard otherwise that he put his time and talent into.Internet headlines exist to grab your attention, and this one was totally accurate, and there's nothing wrong with rap music, gangsta rap music, or freedom of speech.

Jacob Katel

You use a lot of big words, but you don't say much.

Let me simplify the article: He liked rap music, and he made rap music, and he was awesome at it. You may have heard of him because he has also been accused of a crime in Chicago. Some people who he maybe used to work with now say they didn't know him, maybe because of the crime he was accused of. Freedom of speech is awesome. Hopefully he wasn't trying to kill anyone in real life.

you're welcome. glad to see it inspired some creativity. though it didn't take much investigation, and I wouldn't call it journalism.

Terrorism is attempting to change people's behavior by instilling fear of violence ... it is intimidation and bullying ... and in this case and many other cases, it seems very likely that this is exactly what the police and the state are up to.  This happened to me in 2001. I was carrying a sign against the carpet bombing of Kabul, in front of a senator's office. I was arrested and charged with two felonies, $35,000 bail, and complete lies on the police reports and they stole our video tapes as well. Complete bullsh*&(& by ANY standard, and that was a form of terrorism ... intimidation by using me and a few friends as an example of what happens if you "try anything" such as having a dissenting opinion and holding a sign.

I'll believe you when Slip-N-Slide decides to sign Chase...

(provided the accused gets released)

I will handwrite you a formal apology and offer a generous (by my 9-to-5 wageslave standards) donation to keep your publication alive. And should you no longer be writing for the New Times I will find you wherever you take your journalistic endeavors (because it may take awhile to get the collab' with Plies) and write/donate you there. Until then, I'll continue to believe that everyone is going to use this "free speech" as "proof" that this guy is a terrorist and a danger to our "free" society.

Here's a few other issues no one's shed light on. How did the beer from the home-brewery kit taste...? And why the hell would you even need one to make a molotov cocktail? You just put gasoline in a bottle and twist a rag inside. And ta-da! You don't need a copy of the anarchist's cookbook to figure that out. And why in the blue hell would a  "black bloc"-inspired terrorist get the gasoline from BP?
