SunFest 2012: A Ten-Act Guide With Pitbull, Snoop Dogg, and Matisyahu
Thankfully, we don't have to wait long 'cause Sunfest kicks off tomorrow on the sunny West Palm Beach waterfront, running through the week till Sunday, May 6.
The line-up boasts 51 artists bringing everything from rock to hip-hop, reggae, punk, and dance. Basically, everything you'd want to hear at the beach. But here are our top picks for must-see sets at SunFest 2012.
10. SOJA This seven-piece reggae-rock outfit from D.C. really brings the best in beach-side dub. They've got a socially conscious message set to perpetual island grooves. It's the perfect sound for being hot and sweaty, beer in hand. Plus, they get a little edgy too.
9. Cris Cab
This kid is the ultimate in college bro guitar jamming. He also happens to be Wiz Khalifa's new best friend. Plus, he's a Miami local! So make sure you show the boy some love and clap your hands extra hard.
Sometimes religious music can make you feel really uncomfortable. 'Cause, well, you're a heathen. But this Zion lion's modern hip-hop-infused reggae is supergroovy. By the end of Matisyahu's set, we promise you'll be turning to your brother and giving him an extralong hug.
7. Michael Franti & Spearhead
Much like spirituals, feel-good music for people who love yoga and organic food kind of gives us the creeps. But there's just something about Franti's brand of sunshine pop-folk that makes us believe in his groove. His live sets are pretty fabulous and totally necessary for your Sunfest schedule.
6. Joan Jett & The Blackhearts
But seriously, we can't take a bunch of feel-good granola music all day, even if it is top-notch. So make sure you slip in a set from this iconic punk bitch and her band. Most rock stars get lamer as they age. But Ms. Jett just gets sexier and more badass. Try not to throw your panties on stage, dude. She's too cool for you.
