Fiona Apple Announces Concert at Fillmore Miami Beach on September 30

Finding success in the music industry is hard. Pleasing both critics and commercial fans is even more difficult. Doing it all, plus setting a Guinness World Record by the time you're 23 is not only an achievement, it's an awesome feat. And apparently it sends you into hiding.

That's the oversimplified story of Fiona Apple, rock 'n' roll's mad poetess of the late '90s and queen of feminine angst. But the good news is she's coming out of her second self-imposed hiatus with a new album, The Idler Wheel. And she also just announced that she'll be bringing her elusive self to the Fillmore Miami Beach on September 30.

Apple's fourth studio album is the much-anticipated follow-up to her controversial Extraordinary Machines. The new record was produced in secret. Not even her record label knew of the sessions until she showed up with the final product earlier this year.

The Idler Wheel, which goes on sale today, has once again received critical acclaim, almost across the board. But the most exciting part is the chance to catch her live at the Fillmore this fall.

If her return to the stage at this year's SXSW is any indication, Apple's upcoming Miami Beach performance should be awesome, emotional, artistic, and kinda crazy.

Fiona Apple. Sunday, September 30. Fillmore Miami Beach, 1700 Washington Ave., Miami Beach. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets cost $34.50 to $65.50 plus fees via All ages. Call 305-673-7300 or visit

Were we watching the same video of Fiona at SXSW?  That's not exciting music, that is artsy for the sake of artsy music.  While her voice really suited the angsty music from whence she started, it doesn't lend itself well to much else.  Especially her practically yodelling her songs.
