R.I.P., Dan Hosker.

Back in May, Hosker -- a famed South Florida punk who'd done guitar duty in legendary local crews like Harry Pussy, The Holy Terrors, and Laundry Room Squelchers -- was involved in a brutal late-night car wreck.

He was taken to Broward General Medical Center. He fell into a coma. And he spent the last four months in intensive care as family and friends hoped for a miraculous recovery.

But sadly, Hosker never woke up. And this past Saturday afternoon, he died at the age of 46.

When news of his accident started filtering through the SoFla scene last spring, there was uncertainty about Hosker's condition. But there was still hope.

"If he survives this critical period, he will have a long, hard recovery ahead of him and will need all of our love and support," Holy Terrors bandmate Rob Elba said in a Facebook post at the time. "We are all shattered by this, and I know that everyone who knows and loves Dan feels the same."

But as days, weeks, and months passed, it become obvious that Dan was unlikely to recover.

Reports of Hosker's death began circulating via Facebook and Twitter on Saturday night. But yesterday, an official announcement finally came from The Holy Terrors official website.

Alongside a selection of photos from a 2010 reunion show at Churchill's Pub and a brief history of the band, Elba and the rest of The Terrors sent Hosker off with this short, sweet, and achingly sad final message.

"We will miss you forever..."

As a friend and former colleague of Dan's who shared stages, pints, opinions and, at one point, a Theramin with Dan Hosker, let me say that his passing leaves a gaping hole in the local music scene. Dan built stuff -- literally -- both on and off stage. Vaya con dios, Dan. You will be sorely missed.

I loved dancing to this local genius's tunage, he played every note so passionately, guitar, banjo, bass, you name it! A sheer joy to dance to, Dan gave everyone in Florida countless great, unforgettable times, besides being a terrific and supportive friend through any adversity. Sadness doesn't begin to describe the loss, but his creativity and spirit and what he brought to the local music scene will never be forgotten and will live on in all the other tremendous musicians and artists he influenced and inspired for 30 years. Rest In Peace, Don! Your dancing friend, "Dancing Rene" Blanco
