Weezer, World's Best Band Circa Windows 95, Playing South Florida Show on November 8

Remember your first computer?

Ours was a rather unflattering, bulky Packard Bell Legend with horrid speakers hanging off the monitor. There was also a flimsy microphone that we could use on the integrated "telephone answering system with full-duplex speakerphone."

But a digital phone system was only the beginning of our desktop's "fun stuff."

Our desktop unit came with Windows 95 already pre-installed. And back in the mid '90s, Microsoft used to hook up bonus CDs loaded with gnarly shit like that bumper car-inspired capture-the-flag game Hover and alternative rock music videos.

In fact, Bill Gates introduced us to Weezer! And we're totally psyched about getting nostalgic at Hard Rock Live when Rivers Cuomo and his band roll through South Florida on November 8.

Sandwiched somewhere between the Rob Roy trailer and Bill Plympton cartoons, Weezer's video for "Buddy Holly" was inexplicably featured as one of the extras on Windows 95.

Directed by Spike Jonze, the memorable clip depicted Weezer as a 1970s rock 'n' roll band, playing a gig at Arnold's Drive-In from Happy Days. There was even a cameo by Al Molinaro, the actor who played the owner of the fictional diner.

At the time, we didn't understand computers and how powerful they were. We'd never heard "Undone -- The Sweater Song" and thought Weezer really was a 1970s act who performed a catchy hit on an episode of Happy Days.

What dummies!
