Miley Cyrus's Impressive "Lilac Wine" Cover: Is She Underrated, Overrated, or Just Kinda Hot?

Miley Cyrus isn't even old enough to drink.

But the former Disney star isn't letting that stop her from singing about wine.

Yesterday, the 19-year-old singer dropped a cover version of James Shelton's 1950 song, "Lilac Wine," on her official YouTube channel via the brand new mileycyrus.com.

And refreshingly, it ain't half band.

Musically, Cyrus has failed to impress us in the past. "Party in the U.S.A." was more like a recurring Top 40 radio nightmare, and her cover of Poison's "Every Rose Has its Thorn" actually felt as if someone was shoving thorny rose stems into our ear holes.

But on "Lilac Wine," Cyrus is impressive, displaying remarkable control of her voice and singing straight from her "achy breaky heart" with a sexy rasp that's well beyond her young years.

And it just may be an indication that Miley may not suck after all.



Though it's not an original, Miley owns "Lilac Wine," commanding serious respect for her surprisingly passionate delivery of a song that's five times older than she is.

"Lilac Wine" is also a preview of what Cyrus has in store for her fans and critics alike.

"How do y'all feel about me confirming a single for this year?" Cyrus tweeted last night, hinting there's plenty of more music to come.
