Cat Power Warns Miami New Times: "U F#$% With Me U F#$%in With My Whole Crew"

Cat Power (AKA Chan Marshall) is a brilliant indie rock badass.

But she apparently doesn't dig criticism. Especially the kind that she perceives to be unfairly judgmental, arrogant, and "square."

This morning, we here at Crossfade, the Miami New Times' music blog, ran a review of Marshall's Sun tour kickoff concert at Grand Central.

The headline: "Train Wreck." And predictably, Chan wasn't too happy with our version of events.

To summarize this publication's take on last night's gig: "Marshall was completely torn-down on something ... She looked uncomfortable in her own skin, and in general, lived up to her poor track record as a live performer ... Get Chan Marshall off the road and into proper treatment ... [Because] though it might now be a part of the Cat Power mystique, it is beyond uncomfortable to pay money to watch the unraveling of a woman this talented at the hands of whatever vice has her in its grip."

Obviously, Crossfade's assessment of the Miami show wasn't a glowing appreciation of Cat Power's onstage magnificence. That would've been dishonest reporting. But it also wasn't mean, insensitive, or unnecessarily preoccupied with the performer's "physical body."

Yet this afternoon on her Tumblr -- AFASM (Arrow From a Southern Moon) -- Marshall shot back at New Times, Crossfade, and the review's author David Von Bader, posting a screenshot and the following all-caps reaction:

DAVID VON BADER IS A SQUARE.
FULL JUDGEMENT OF HIS PHYSICAL BODY, BODY LANGUAGE, CREATIVE APTITUDE WHILE ARROGANTLY MISTAKING & IGNORANTLY MISUNDERSTANDING HIM CRITICALLY WITH SOCIAL EYEBALL, SOON, ON MY BLOG. INCREDTV.COM

So far, there doesn't seem to have been any New Times-, Crossfade-, or David Von Bader-related attack rants published to Marshall's personal web log. But a short time after her initial lashing-out, Chan did post the above screenshot of our photographer Ian Witlen's slideshow pic, alongside this hashtagged warning:

THE LOVE THAT WONT SHUT UP. #ufuckwithmeufuckinwithmywholecrewEARTH

Umm, OK ... There's no real reason for beef, though. Because we love you, Cat Power. We own every single one of your albums. And we think your new blonde mohawk is fucking awesome.

But while there are plenty of fanboys and -girls on Twitter and Tumblr who'll tell you otherwise ... It's just that last night's show sucked.

She definitely looks a little rough in those photos, her quotes above and Twitter feed hasn't exactly shown she's in a great place either.

Gee, I sensed 0% sarcasm in this "article". It sounds like all of the cocaine has finally eaten you Miami folks up. I wish y'all the best of luck in finding new hobbies. Mike Ock told me to tell you that he wants a long drawn-out and jittery hug.

Wasn't at the show but heard from several people who were that it was shit, that she was fucked up, and that it was uncomfortable

Don't worry. I know her kryptonite. If her and her whole crew come at you just get on a stage.
