Cat Power: "Miami Beach Reminds Me of Manhattan After a Nuclear War"

Holy, Manhattan Project!

Did you know we're living on a post-apocalyptic island?

It's true. But on the upside, we just might get to spend the End of Days sharing a bunker with indie goddess and longtime SoFla resident Cat Power.

In a new interview with Ocean Drive magazine, Power (née Chan Marshall) says, "Miami Beach reminds me of Manhattan after a nuclear war. Everything is real simple."

Of course, Cat kinda means it as a compliment. Though as the article's author points out, her comparison of our subtropical shores to the Big Apple circa nuclear summer isn't gonna "end up in any tourism brochures."

"Think of the way it narrows down at the bottom end," Power tells the mag, elaborating on her beautiful apocalyptic vision. "It's like a radioactive bomb went off that made most of the people vanish. Then the water rushed in and took away a bunch of the streets."

Just as Cat likes to sing: ""What are we doing? We're sitting on a ruin."

Cat Power's Sun Tour. Thursday, October 11. Grand Central, 697 N. Miami Ave., Miami. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets cost $25 plus fees via fla.vor.us. Call 305-377-2277 or visit grandcentralmiami.com.
