Better Than: Throwing a party on a Native American burial ground, moshing with mummies, and Trick-or-Treating at Britney Spears' house.
Miami has a tendency to turn every holiday into a Gatsby Party, a themed gathering in which dinbleberries completely miss the point of F. Scott Fitzgerald's Great American Novel by dressing up like intolerably rich people from the 1920s.
Luckily, for those of us looking to get down and -- most importantly -- dirty this Halloween, Churchill's Pub and Plan B, its monthly alternative ladies' night and Planned Parenthood benefit, provided a suitably scuzzy option.

| Crucial Taunt. |
Crucial Taunt opened the night's proceedings with bullshit-less tuneage. Featuring members of Curious Hair, Dyslexic Postcards, and Luma Junger, this off-the-rails power trio sounds like a runaway punk 'n' roll caboose speedily rolling down an improvisation-inclined hill of blistering free rock. We even heard a little black metal buzzsaw riffage. Best new band!

| Holly Hunt rips Halloween a new butthole. |
Just when you think you can't go any deeper, ambient sludge metal monster Holly Hunt grabs your ankles and drags you another 10000 kilometers into an underwater volcano. Gavin Perry's amps only get bigger. And every time we see Beatriz Monteavaro beat the ever-living-shit out of her kit, we can't help but feel it was at least a little more intense than the last time.
We heard some new material early in the set that alluded to some righteous, hook-heavy jams to come. And the duo continued to improve on old material with their highly personalized attention to detail. At this point, you're either hoppin' on board the Holly Hunt express or getting flattened into a pancake when it runs you over.
