UR1 Festival Postponed, Will Be Rescheduled UPDATED

ur1_logo.jpg
According to UR1 Festival organizers, the fest has been postponed, not canceled. The reason given for the rescheduling: a weather forecast that predicts strong winds the weekend of December 8 and 9.

Once the new dates are announced, ticket holders can decide whether to ask for a refund or use the ticket. (The UR1 spokesperson tells Crossfade that new dates could be announced as early as a week and a half from today.)

There is also another option which is to keep your ticket and use it during the week of Art Basel Miami Beach. UR1 says it will be working with local venues to put on music shows around town. The ticket will act like a festival pass, granting access to each show.

All that information will soon be available at ur1festival.com.

Here is the full statement from UR1's organizers:

UR1 Festival Postponement Announcement

It is with deep regret that we announce the postponement of the first annual UR1 Music & Art Festival due to circumstances beyond our control, including:

- Foreseeable inclement weather conditions in the Miami-Dade and South Florida region;
- Continued effects of the recent Hurricane Sandy.

In consideration of these and other factors including the safety and wellbeing of our fans and performing artists we have come to this tough decision. Understandably this has had an ancillary effect on ticket sales and business logistics. It has always been our mission to produce events of the utmost quality and safety.

The new dates for the UR1 Music & Art Festival will be announced shortly. New dates will be chosen when weather conditions satisfy the safety of our fans, artists and staff. Once the dates are released you may chose to retain your ticket, as we will accept it at the festival. Alternatively should you choose to be refunded, information and instructions on how to do so can be found at www.ur1festival.com/tickets. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

We would also like to inform you that we are making every effort to showcase some of the talent that was scheduled to perform and exhibit at the festival in various locations around Miami. For those of you who would like to join us and the talent that will continue on to be showcased pending forthcoming dates to be announced, UR1 Ticket holders will have the opportunity to use their festival ticket at events around Miami during Basel week. A list of events accepting UR1 Tickets & Vouchers will soon be listed at www.ur1festival.com

Sincerely,

The UR1 Music & Art Festival Family

Earlier Post: Ugh. This sucks to even have to write, but rumors are swirling that the UR1 Festival has been canceled. We sent a message to a UR1 spokesperson but are still awaiting confirmation. Sources say a statement will be released later today.

What happened? Not entirely sure. But an ambitious festival the size of UR1 is an expensive endeavor. The cost of artists, production, and security can easily go into the millions.

There are also already established events -- Art Basel Miami Beach and its satellite events -- happening as well. The question we always had in our heads: Would art patrons also be interested in attending a music festival?

It's sure not for lack of trying. Go Big Productions launched a massive campaign, which included running ads both in local papers (like New Times) and national outlets. We really hope organizers don't give up. Our city could really use deserves another major music festival.

Our sources tell us booking agents have already contacted area venues to see if they can pick up displaced acts. Some have already found new places to perform and we'll hear about it soon enough.

We'll continue to keep you updated as this story develops.

If the rumors are true and this postponing was due  to lack of ticket sales, then it serves them right.  If you look on their Facebook page, you will see many people asking for a schedule of when the artists will play, and all their requests are just ignored.  Miami has a high cost of living and people need to work, our biggest industry is the 24-hour hospitality and tourism industry.  So for some people like me, we might only be able to take one day off.

They are saying its because of inclement weather, but that smells like bs 14 days out. Too bad, because this is exactly why much of the music biz is tanking. Poor management and poor planning, lack of forethought.....Kanye might be a big name but everyone knows he is a bitch. Had they booked Pitbull, or some other firecracker artist... Miami audiences would have responded a little differently to ticket sales. I apologize if this sounds like a rant, but I am pissed. Throwing down hundreds of dollars for some shit show to get postponed to a different date that I wont be able to attend makes my blood boil. Besides, this is Art Basel...this festival outside of AB wont have the same following. Fuck you UR1, fuck you.

Promoters, and spokespersons names had to be withheld due to inclement weather ....  Sure

Damn it, I knew it, too good to be true. Only Ultra works in this ( _fill the blank_) town.

They are either godly or delusional because there is not enough technology in the world to predict winds 2 weeks in advance. They should have at least made a better lie that didn't make them look this asinine and obzerd , taking Miami people for fools. You can go shove that UR1 where the sun doesn't shine .

HAHAHA, the weather forecast for Dec 8-9 calls for wind...these people are delusional if they expect anyone to believe that whopper

This is almost offensive to the people who actually lost their homes and their lives during Superstorm Sandy. Hell, one can only speculate that the organizers just used it as an excuse to breach their contracts with the artists at no cost to them.

Someone get Dovi from Empire Equities out of NY to comment, word is they were the capital behind this event. I can imagine how pissed they are.

Wind Conditions? Really? I mean, if there is a hurricane on its way then, yes, without a doubt cancel it. But... wind????

Not surprised.  The moment I heard about this festival..less than 2 months ago, I thought.."How am I now only hearing about this big festival with only 2 months left for this big show. "   Did someone forget this is Miami? We can weather tough winds and hurricanes, HELLO!  Hopefully the event does not get canceled and does get postponed.  But if it gets postponed I would hope to see better marketing and promotion from this event.  Unfortunately, the Miami masses are made up of a diverse music loving community.  The marketing and promotions team is going have to figure out how tap into the various music segments.  With a lineup that includes Animal Collective, Keane, and Lou Reed  marketers will need to understand and know how to promote to the segment not moved by electronic/techno/trance mixes.  Also, where's the local music representation?  Would be something good to add that can help and include our own local music scene.

Sorry but this needed better headliners. Some of the smaller acts were really good choices, but Lou Reed was the only headliner worth the ticket price.

excuse me but this sounds like a load of it: when do weather conditions are predictable enough, especially in MIA?! + they tell you to keep your ticket and buy a new one if and when the show is re-scheduled = er, double-dipping anyone??

So the 1%ers that could afford the price of admission couldn't carry the festival, huh? Interesting. As with UR1, so it is with the economy as well. It won't be the 1% that can carry anything!!!!

WOW! Pretty big number of headliners to cancel this close to the date!

Are you kidding me? It was a giveaway! All those acts for $120 bucks? That sucks that it might be cancelled!

This cancellation is a blessing in disguise. Not that the city loses the event, it's just the whole concept was faulty.  Better to have a series of Major shows then to have one MEGA show that would eliminate the chances of smaller-mid range local venues from hosting their own events with these acts.

@Lauzin The Offspring was also playing this. Can't imagine the cancellation would be good for their...self esteem.
