Mansion on DJ Shadow: The Official Statement

We offer our most sincere apologies to DJ Shadow and his fans for his set being cut short at Mansion this past weekend. This error should not have happened and will not happen again, especially as we pride ourselves on creating an environment that cultivates and respects innovators such as DJ Shadow. We have learned a lot from this error and made changes within our organization to ensure that Mansion's vision, and the vision of our guests, will never be compromised again.

For Mansion's sake, let's hope another "innovator" never gets yanked out of the DJ booth again.

Wow, it took Mansion's PR team almost a week to respond with an apology. It is unbelievable that they are continuing to delete comments off of their Facebook page. Someone clearly needs to take a Social Media PR 101 course.  Below is what I posted to their page last weekend (of course it was deleted):

"Deleting any mention of DJ Shadow and people's posts on your FB page is not going to help your PR crisis, it is just going to inflame the situation. All of this bad publicity doesn't look like it is going to blow over quickly this time around, so hopefully someone on your team is busy crafting a public response. If you don't have a publicist you should hire one a good one asap (and if you already have one then maybe it is time to fire them and hire someone else)."

"this error should not have happened" correction: this error should not have been MADE.

whoever handles crisis/issues management in your PR department took a while to come up with this.. who else in your PR messed up?? oh yeah, the promoter(s) who cut dj shadow's set short.. i hope some of the "changes" you guys talk about here consists of getting new PR.

well, not a big fan on mansion anyway. so superficial.

Any club that places the lunkhead dipshit music interests of its bottle patrons over the creative choices of a true legend on the decks deserves boycotting, in my book. It begs the question why Shadow would even play a hellhole like Mansion (I'm sure the money was good), but more importantly, the whole incident exposes the sleazy South Beach club scene for what it truly is and always has been: a roiling, bacchanalian meat market of airhead wannabe models, their roid-rage-challenged boyfriends, and the ruthless thugs who charge them all admission and overpriced bottle service so they can jerk each other off with blood money until the mega-rich-fuck apocalypse comes. Saccharine dance-pop music is the perfect soundtrack for such a gutless and vapid scene.

They can avoid having to pull another innovator by never booking another one because they obviously care more about their bottle patrons than the music ... a sign of the times sadly. :( -@deannarilling

How is it that they hire him THEN they don't like him? Whether the club staff didn't properly preview his style or they stupidly thought they could make him change and then humiliated him when he didn't its a bullshit move

The venue itself might be good. But the people that run it really do suck ass. The '$in¢€r€ apologi€$' part is just pure hypocrisy and took place ONLY because now they tried to book someone who turned them down and won't profit from his/her appearance there in addition to seeing a $ignificant drop in attendance after the DJ Shadow fiasco. They earned their reputation. But no worries...Paris Hilton to da rescue, y'all!! Yay! LMFAO

fyi this is what mansion really thinks. it's from their facebook page:  "We actually had huge amounts of traffic and great sales this week because of this... our upcoming events are almost sold out. The DJ in question also got TONS of great publicity too. So to everyone who stood up for that DJ yet has never been to Mansion, we thank each and every one of you!"

It's Mansion that sucks. Period. Unfortunately his true music fans suffered. I'm not into Shadow, but I feel for him and his fans with this incident. This just further cements my already existing beliefs on Mansion, and other "clubs", and thats that they're full of douches. Just my .02.

Bullshit, all the way. They just apologized b/c of all the negative publicity.

apology NOT accepted. i'll never go to mansion again. this happened on my fing birthday!!! i went with my gf and 2 friends. being long time dj shadow fans we were so excited. but the jerk at the door wouldn't let me in supposedly because i was wearing a t-shirt (even though i had no trouble getting in the previous sunday - when business was slow - wearing something very similar!) complete BS. mansion is a bunch of greedy, pretentious pigs and i feel completely disrespected by their actions.  never again.  if they really want to apologize, bring shadow back for a free concert and give priority to the people that bought tickets the first time.

Kind of a Papa Johns/Chik-Fil-A apology. No forgiveness!

Mansion always cuts off Dj's when they don't play mainstream Y100 songs....And the worst valet service in the world. They would steal your soul if you somehow left it in your car.

The only reason they apologized was because Shadow called them out on their bullshit and alot people took notice. That's bad for business. They don't give a shit about the music or the culture. All they care about is filling up their VIP tables and charging $20 for drinks. Now everybody knows how fake SoBe nightlife is.

Another "innovator" won't even consider playing again, once Shadow informs them on what ignorant pieces of shit Miami promoters are. Thank again, Mansion.

With all due respect to Mansion, hiring a legendary DJ with a long, transparent legacy of non-mainstream work, then publicly humiliating him, is just wrong. Especially with multiple layers of onsite management making decisions in real time. So I applaud this classy apology and I hope they invite him back for his deserved day in the sun.

I like the fact they admitted the error of their ways. I wont be going there, but still. A lot of organizations can't do that. The, um, NRA comes to mind HOLY GOD THAT PRESS CONFERENCE TODAY WAS A DISASTER.

whatever. I'll never go to that shithole again.

They should give people refunds!!! My BF tried to get a refund and was refused. He then disputed it with his CC company! and BTW Mansion still sucks! >.

The changes that they made include, never ever ever book DJ Shadow again because his "futuristic" music is not conducive to bottle poppin'.

LOL. It took them a whole week to come up with that paragraph?
