DJ Shadow Kicked Off the Decks at Mansion Miami, Just Like Dennis Ferrer

The show must go on, even in times of grief. And DJ Shadow was prepared to do just that this past Friday at Mansion, the day America lost 20 innocent school children and six brave educators following the horrific tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut.

"The challenge for any 'entertainer' working on this tragic day is to find a place to compartmentalize the sorrow in order to carry on," Shadow (AKA Josh Davis) tweeted before the gig.

"That said," he added, "tonight's set in Miami WILL proceed as planned."

However, his set didn't proceed as planned. It was cut short by promoters.

UPDATE Mansion Miami is offering its "most sincere apologies to DJ Shadow and fans for his set being cut short."

UPDATE #2 DJ Shadow just released his "Infamous" Mansion set, asking: "Too hard? Too future? Or just too raw?"

According to Pigeons and Planes, Shadow was in the middle of spinning Krampfhaft's "Spit Thunder" when a Mansion promoter whispered something into the DJ's ear.

A half-smile later, Shadow picked up the microphone and informed the crowd that he'd been asked to stop.

"I've waited a long time to play here," Shadow said. "But they said this shit's too future for all of y'all."

my buddy's step-aunt makes $60/hour on the computer. She has been out of a job for 9 months but last month her pay was $18423 just working on the computer for a few hours. Go to this web site and read more http://x.co/qe9R

I'm a DJ Shadow fan (well, an 'Endtroducing...'-fanatic) and even I was too wary of an off performance from him to actually buy tickets. He has stated upfront that he's just kind of reminiscing the limited days of the past when he got to actually DJ-- or at least something that effect...Doesn't anyone /else/ look for samples of previous live/DJ performances from musicians before paying to see them perform live for the first time? Hint: you should. It's often quite different what you've experienced listening to a person's albums.

Patrick, a Heineken is $14 at that fucking shithole - they don't sell domestic beer. The real price is $12 - cash or credit. What this slimy bastards don't tell you is that they add a $1.93 auto-gratuity into the price, then they round up the remaining .7 cents to the club. Do you think any of the bartenders tell you that?? Hell no. So, any decent person will give a customary $1 tip for the beer right? So now, the bartender has made almost $3 for handing you ONE fucking beer. I never seen such a illegal racket at a club that not many people seem to know about. Since when is it legal to operate like this? Since when is it legal to round up the .7 cents on every beer/drink? It may not seem like much, it may seem trivial, but it's sleazy and illegal.

I almost went. I would have been pissed. I would say BOYCOTT but if they don't like deep house or turntablism, they don't want me anyway. $16 for a beer?

The whole world knows about Mansion and what a shitty venue it is after this. Opium Group is the dumbest promotion team in South Florida who don't even listen to the music of the artists/DJs they book. I never attend any of their events and I will never ever set foot inside Mansion again. I feel bad for people who are going to pay 2 grand for a table to see Carl Cox spin for 10 minutes before they boot him off the decks.

What else do you expect from people that think "Sandstorm" is old school. Most people born in the 90's have no clue what artists like DJ Shadow have done to push music to where it is today. Todays pop electro music is the Keanu Reeves of the electronic dance scene.

Wow! That's so fucking stupid. Why would you have a sick underground DJ if you just want mainstream bullshit?

Typical South Beach bullshit. One of the dopest DJ's on the planet.

The responsibility falls on both parties here. Promoters need to know who they are hiring and performers need to know where they are playing.

Someone did not know who they were booking!! Too many tourists in town that just show up to clubs and don't know who is playing. Manison looks like they don't know what they are doing.

Clearly a mistake by mansion promoters, but regardless, fuck them and whoever told mansion, their promoters and anyone who thinks shadow is not worthy to grace their stage, he is one the greatest pioneers is music, sampling and DJing. Suck a fat dick is u prefer douchebag culture over true artistry.

The Miami club scene is pure shit. Twice now?? Why hire a real DJ if all you want to hear is top 40 tracks? Turn on a radio and hook your speakers to it. Its cheaper and you'll get exactly what you want to hear.

I agree music is a business but, that business consist of providing your customers with what they want. If you take an action that results in your customers chanting "fuck this shit" it's safe to assume you have made a poor business decision.

FUCK Mansion. That "club" has NO class. love the $14 beer that includes a $1.93 auto-gratuity - that the bartenders DO NOT tell you about, then the "club" rounds the tab up .7 cents - A NICE HONEST WAY TO DO BUSINESS - FUCKING ASSHOLES!!!

Music is a business before a love sometimes. They should have never brought him in. He is not the format they want in there. I personally love his stuff.

Mansion is fantastic to play techno, eurobeat, house, electronic dance/pop music. Shadow is part of an experimental trip hop movement, so it doesnt match with the musical preference in this venue. However i find disrespectfull kicking off an artist in the middle of a performance, the BOOOO is for the organizer and the "fuck that shit" crowd.
