Bacilos' Jorge Villamizar Playing His Hits at Bardot Miami on January 24
And so does Jorge Villamizar, the five-time Latin Grammy Award winner and "Todo Lo Que Quieres Es Bailar" singer, whose contribution to Latin pop music have far surpassed his "Primer Millón."
Villamizar rose to prominence in the early 2000s as the lead vocalist and founder of Bacilos, New Times' favorite Latin Band in 2001 and 2003.
Ten years later, el tipo's unloading an arsenal of his best work with an intimate gig at Bardot on Thursday, January 24.

"Bacilos was the thing, man," Villamizar said in an interview with Es Musicá before releasing his first solo record in 2008. "It was Hispanic music, done by Latin guys living in the States who were trying to do something that was as Latin as possible."
Shortly after joining musical forces with fellow University of Miami students André Lopes and JJ Freire, Villamizar's band independently released Madera in 1999. However, it wasn't until the group signed with Warner Music a year later that things really took off.
The group's jam band-like brand resonated with fans and critics alike, and in its 12-years existence, Villamizar and Bacilos racked up an impressive collection of Latin Grammy nominations and hardware, including the Best Pop Album award for 2002's Caraluna.
But all good things come to end.
Bacilos disbanded in 2007, and Villamizar began focusing on a solo career.
"I wrote the songs for Bacilos. I sang the songs for Bacilos," he told Es Musicá. "I knew that at some point that I would have to get more personal, and that is hard to do with a band."
And nothing's more intimate and personal than a show at Bardot.
