Chopstick Talks Suol Label, Topping the EDM Polls, and Miami Debut at Delano Hotel

What were Suol's proudest moments in 2012?
After 2012 was coming to an end, [we ranked near the top in] a lot of [EDM] polls. Our second album with Fritz Kalkbrenner has been nominated for several national awards. And our Suol Mates mix release was also a nice success. We signed two new artists, Chasing Kurt and Meggy, by the end of 2012. Both have promising futures and incredible voices.

There's many other things that we are proud of too, such as having a really good team behind our label who do the daily business and keep the engines burning. They are not traveling around the world and DJing all over, but without them we wouldn't be able to follow Suol's vision. And last but not least, we (almost) finished our five studios, which was a huge pain in the ass. So after almost two years of building, we can actually go and make music in our studios. That was a huge relief in 2012!

So what do you have in store for the label in 2013?
We have a few artist albums coming up, first one being by Chasing Kurt, followed by our debut album and Meggy's debut album. Till Von Sein is doing our Suol Mates compilation for 2013, and in between, we have our 12-inch releases by Trickski, Fritz Kalkbrenner, Daniel Bortz, Sven von Thülen and Fritz Zander. It'll be a year packed with really exciting music coming your way!

What can Miami expect from your gig with John Jon and Daniel Bortz for the Young Hearts party at the Delano?
The three of us are all DJs at heart. Everybody started DJing at a young age, driven by passion for the music. And even after all these years and lots of gigs, it's getting stronger and stronger. On our recent tour through Brazil, we played a six-and-a-half-hour set (instead of the three hours planned), because we, the crowd, and promoter agreed that this had to go on just a bit longer. We're looking forward to every gig, and it's our first time in Miami. So you can expect three DJs giving everything they got. That's for sure!

Chopstick. With Daniel Bortz and John Jon. Presented by Young Hearts. Tuesday, January 22. Delano Hotel, 1685 Collins Ave., Miami. The party starts at 9 p.m. and admission is free with RSVP to younghearts@kloudix.co. Call 305-672-2000 and delano-hotel.com.
