Crescendos Piano Bar Closes, Final Party Tomorrow Night

Singin' the blues.

Although we may have been spared the Mayan apocalypse, this Saturday night will mark the end of the world for Crescendos Piano Bar.

The news of the closure of the Lincoln Road lounge located at the Ritz-Carlton came as unexpected as the fifty-degree weather that we woke up to this morning.

"We got the notice Tuesday from the owners and that's all we know about it," said Luoi Conde, general manager of Crescendos. "It's disappointing to be closing on such short notice."

Rather than looking at the glass half empty, Crescendos is closing its doors with a bang and throwing an "End of the World as We Know It" party. And that can only mean one thing: endless booze. Well, at least until the liquor runs out.

The party will be celebrating three years of nightly musical talent (which have included performances from the Temptations, Supremes, and local artists) as it has every other night - with music and alcohol.

The last hurrah will kick-off with the usual two-for-one happy hour from 5-9 p.m., followed by live music from pianist Freddie Colloca and other festivities.

Later at 11 p.m., $5 mixed drink and shooter specials, including anything and everything on the shelves, will be offered until the music dies and Crescendos closes its doors for good.

Since its opening in 2009, Crescendos has attracted a mixed crowd of locals, tourists, music lovers, and cigar aficionados.

"So many people wander into our bar for the first time and immediately fall in love with the space and the atmosphere," said bartender Mickey Hamill of Crescendos, the sister bar to Soprano Piano Bars which have locations in Aruba, Curacao, St, Marteen, and Amsterdam.

"It's heartbreaking to have to tell them that it won't be here for much longer, and worse to think of all of the people that we won't be able to contact before the closing this weekend."
