Of Montreal Announces 2013 U.S. Tour, Coming to Grand Central Miami

Like some kind of rabid half-human, half-beaver freakshow cooked up in the laboratory of Dr. Moreau, Of Montreal is plowing through the second decade of the new millennium with a psychedelic skill set that employs the best of seemingly disparate gene pools.

Of course, the crux of the band's genetic makeup is joyously manic, vaudevillian Dayglo pop.

But the secret ingredient to Kevin Barnes and his merry indie-pop pranksters longevity (17 glitter-and-spandex packed years!) has nothing to do with the group's obvious archetypes and signatures, and everything to do with their insatiable hustle, which, BTW, is quite comparable to the rock-slangin' unfuckwithability of a top-shelf rhyme-spittin', drug-dealin' trap star.

UPDATE Of Montreal has canceled and rescheduled the Miami show after its tour broke down.

Just look at the numbers! In addition to 17 straight years as a functioning ensemble, Of Montreal has produced a prolific discography that includes 11 full-length albums, comfortably easing into the habit of releasing a record every other year.

And while the band may not be selling CD-Rs and t-shirts out of the trunk of its heavily customized Impala, Of Montreal's road warrior dedication to touring just might be superior to the collective water-whippin' of Gucci Mane, Young Jeezy, and Rick Ross. Combined.

But unlike the paradigms and milieus that define the trap rappers listed above, Of Montreal promotes a cotton-candy lifestyle that will never get you arrested by an undercover officer or shot by a rival pusherman.
