Hova smokin' a stogie like a commie.
As supercouple Jay-Z and Beyoncé prep for World Humanitarian Day ("I'm doing something good," Mrs. Carter tweets, "somewhere, for someone else. Join me!"), they're also getting slammed by South Floridian members of Congress Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Mario Diaz-Balart for helping to "fund the machinery of oppression."

How exactly? Spending all them tourist dollas in Castro's Cuba.

UPDATE Jay-Z and Beyonce's trip to Cuba was approved by U.S. Treasury as a "people-to-people" cultural visit.

UPDATE #2 Marco Rubio says Jay-Z and Beyonce are "tourists who have no interest in the Cuban people's freedom," demands the "Obama administration explain."

UPDATE #3 The Treasury Department has officially confirmed that Jay-Z and Beyonce's trip to Cuba was indeed "authorized."

UPDATE #4 Ros-Lehtinen still insists Jay-Z and Beyonce in Cuba "was a wedding anniversary vacation that was not even disguised as a cultural program."

UPDATE #5 Jay-Z's finally responded to his Cuba haters with a new track called "Open Letter" and words like, "Obama said, 'Chill, you gon get me impeached.'"

UPDATE #6 Pitbull has dropped a rap response to Jay-Z and Beyonce's Cuba visit, offering to pay for the trip.

UPDATE #7 Problem Kids have released "Useful Idiot" about Jay-Z: "The real cuba is not what he portrayed"

UPDATE #8 Obama has commented on Jay-Z and Beyonce in Cuba, saying: ""This is not something the White House was involved with. We've got better things to do."

From the moment Hova and Bey were spotted in Havana last week, it was inevitable that a Republican backlash was coming down.

A commie country, Cuba has been embargoed for six decades. And it is forbidden territory for American visitors, unless granted special permission from the U.S. government.

So as our sister blog Riptide pointed out: "No one is really sure how legal [Jay-Z and Beyoncé's] trip is. The embargo forbids Americans from traveling to Cuba for tourism reasons, but exceptions are made for people traveling for academic, journalistic, religious and cultural reasons."

Of course, though, the Carters are quite cozy with the Obamas. (As Barack says, "We've got a little bond there.") So presumably, their Cuba request could've been hella fast-tracked.

But Ros-Lehtinen and Diaz-Balart want proof.

"Cuba's tourism industry is wholly state-controlled," the pair writes in a letter to the Prez and the U.S. Treasury Department, questioning the legality of Hova and Bey's anniversary vacay on the island.

"U.S. dollars spent on Cuban tourism," the members of Congress bluntly state, "directly fund the machinery of oppression that brutally represses the Cuban people."

Now... Who's ready for World Humanitarian Day?

Funny how people keep quoting Guevera's writing about his dislike for blacks, when not only was this the sentiment of MOST Caucasian Americans at the time, it was a popularly held view by many Europeans as well. Yes, Guevera held biased views and expressed them in his writing as a young man, but as a socialist he HATED "YANKEE IMPERIALISM" and fought for the rights of the peasant farmers of Cuba and side by side with the Congolese rebels in Africa. So, if he held racist beliefs once upon a time, he risked life and limb for the rights of the black man before his death. Isn't that what life is about??? Evolving???

People forget the Civil Rights bill was only passed in 1964, and African Americans in the U.S. were not only treated as second class citizens, MOST of the white population approved of segregation and wanted to uphold it forever. How many politicians made speeches disparaging black people? How many sat idly by as black men were lynched, attacked with dogs and fire hoses in the South?  Che Guevera was a freedom fighter to many. Let's not forget that the "machinery" of oppression for the Afro Cuban, at the hands of the Caucasian Cuban aristocrats, started long before the Cuban revolution. And Cuba's lack of modernity and industrialization is largely due to the sanctions and embargoes still intact today, many years after Castro's ouster of Batista and the U.S. and European imperialists, who overran the country's industry, owning 80% of the fertile farm land and industry! And why has the privilege of trade and economic development and growth been bestowed upon Cuba's communist counterpart, China? Vietnam is still communist and enjoys a thriving tourism industry.

So, let's stop whitewashing history and acting like Castro has the franchise on "oppression."

funny how people so concerned with freedom of Cubans in Cuba would prohibit American citizens from travelling freely.  Hypocrites.

As a Cuban, I could care less. The funny part though is the wearing of the Che' shirt when in fact Che' has made comments of his dislike for blacks. Just a bit of irony.

Zip it Ileana and Mario. Why don't you concentrate on allowing other immigants to enjoy the immigation status Cubans have? It is only fair. And before I am labeled, I am Cuban born and came through Operation Pedro Pan, but not blind to the fact there is a double standard.

Opression?! In Miami, right? this midget is very opportunistic, just like most of the Civil Leaders here in Miami... Once the embargo ends, so will her hustle.

That lying bitch, Ros Lehtinen and that jackass Diaz Balart need to STFU and get back to work. They need to stop campaigning and work for their constituents not all of who care about this. Especially when there's so much to do HERE.

Any artist can go to Cuba. These two idiots should spend their time and make sure that every immigrant in the USA is afforded the same opportunity that all Cuban's are offered. One foot on dry land and all Cuban's get amnesty and a green card.

If a white person had gone to South Africa and worn a De Clerk T and taken pictures having fun during Apartheid then the entire country would be up in arms. Since its Cuba, there's a double standard.

Jay & B are entertainers - they know about multimillion dollar business ventures and music. They understand nothing about the Latino community nor its history with Cuba. To them, Cuba is a fabulous country to vacation at. Lol.

@Betty Burden Laster  See the logic of these people. If "ya" got the money. Sure, and if "ya" had "da" money when South Africa was segregated (as is Cuba's tourist beaches today, not allowing Cuba's people to go to the tourist (ie best) beaches) go there with a t-shirt of a Klan member. Go where you wanna go!!!!!
