Rick Ross Finally Apologizes for Rape Lyrics: "One of My Biggest Mistakes and Regrets"

Rick_Ross_Rape_Apology_Statement.jpg
The Bawse says: "I apologize." And this time, he means it.

After a couple of weak attempts at defending his molly sex assault verse on Rocko's "U.O.E.N.O." (condescendingly calling "woman ... the most precious gift known to man" and then cringe-worthily tweeting ""I dont condone rape. #BOSS"), William Roberts (AKA Rick Ross) is finally, truly admitting that "suggest[ing] in any way that harm and violation be brought to a woman is one of my biggest mistakes and regrets."

Statement from Rick Ross

In response to the continuing controversy over some recent lyrics of his, recording artist Rick Ross issued the following statement today:

"Before I am an artist, I am a father, a son, and a brother to some of the most cherished women in the world. So for me to suggest in any way that harm and violation be brought to a woman is one of my biggest mistakes and regrets. As an artist, one of the most liberating things is being able to paint pictures with my words. But with that comes a great responsibility. And most recently, my choice of words was not only offensive, it does not reflect my true heart. And for this, I apologize. To every woman that has felt the sting of abuse, I apologize. I recognize that as an artist I have a voice and with that, the power of influence. To the young men who listen to my music, please know that using a substance to rob a woman of her right to make a choice is not only a crime, it's wrong and I do not encourage it. To my fans, I also apologize if I have disappointed you. I can only hope that this sparks a healthy dialogue and that I can contribute to it."

Good move Reebok. This man, unfortunately, is idolized by a lot of teenage kids. He is 38 years old!  His lyrics are disgusting! Why is a 38 year old singing about drugs and rape? That is beyond scary.  BTW Rick - that was a good statement written by your lawyers.

So, let me get this right:  Reebok dropped Rick Ross because of rape lyrics?  Sooo, they didn't see anything wrong with the other lyrics or any of his rap songs for that matter?  So, I guess the fact that he uses the 'N' word in his songs and he talks about murdering folks, calls women b*tches and hoes and condones drug use in his lyrics/songs---that was okay with Reebok, right???  It wasn't until he rapped about dropping drugs into a woman's drink and then taking her back to the crib to have sex while she was under the influence of this drug---then, that's when Reebok or any of the women activists actually had a problem, right?

Get the freak out of here!!!  What kind of mess is that!  The real problem should have been looked at with Reebok even considering giving him an endorsement giving the type of music he does.  And this goes for any entity or business who gives endorsements out to jive turkeys who have no respect for women, children and authority.  Get real, people!  I'm just sayin'!

He should have know alone with his legal team that this song would have serious consequences in he end. If I was him I would fire all of them. It cost him millions from Nike. Shoulder woulder coulder. To late now.If he turn around it wouldn't make a difference. Ok Rick Ross drugging a woman, taking her home and having your way with her and she don't even know it . You don't call that "Rape". Then what is that called? Getting to know you.

He only apologized because he was economically sanctioned, and probably publicly embarrassed. When whoever wrote that lyric gave it to him, he thought that shit was fly. When he recorded it, his homies was like... yeah.. that's the shit. someone in industry put that record out thinking it was gonna be a hit - as far as I can see it, he was responsible because he is the spokesperson for those lyrics but he is also being scapegoated as the problem. Because this kind of garbage is viewed as acceptable and profitable to many more than just him, it is a problem for a whole lot more people in the industry to own up to, but don't have to because they've gotten off the hook since the public believes that these lyrics were solely Ross' own doing. Certainly, they were not.
