Digitalism and "A New Drug" at Bardot Miami

Long before Apple ventured into the world of Intel processors and redefined industry standards with the MacBook Pro, DJs carried crates full of store-bought vinyl records to their gigs and remixed tracks on bulky, direct-drive turntables. But whenever science and software evolve, electronic dance music quickly follows suit.

For German indie electro-house act Digitalism, however, the spirit of vinyl is alive and well on its 2012 DJ-Kicks compilation. Hell, it's even available on wax.

"We wanted to present our sonic world and the kind of sound that we grew up with when we started DJing and collecting vinyl," Digitalism told New Times last summer. "It's a bit of a historic approach. We wanted to include material by artists and labels that we used to love, and tracks that we used to play nearly every night, whether it was new or old material. Some of the stuff on the DJ-Kicks is very old, you know."

And some of the stuff was brand new, like "A New Drug."

"This compilation is a DJ mix, [but] we included new music from us on it, just like back in the day--five new tracks plus two new exclusive remixes."
