Joint Custody Talks Florida EDM, Drops Exclusive DJ Mix for Crossfade

Tampa may be a small town compared to Miami.

But thanks to local resident DJ Three, his longstanding Snatch club night, and his esteemed Hallucination Limited label, T-Town definitely holds its own when it comes to underground electronic dance music.

One of the talented acts to come up under the label and Three's mentoring is DJ-production duo Joint Custody, AKA Matt Dillon and Joe Morgan.

Their signature deep, psychedelic tech-house is bringing the pair international heat as they continue putting out choice material on other hotly tipped underground labels like Superfreq and Adjunct Audio (the latter's new compilation with a Joint Custody number just dropped this week).

With 305 as their area code for this summer, Joint Custody have joined forces with Miami DJ Omar Ghaffar and the Analog collective to curate a series of parties at Wynwood's TSL Lounge focused on quality musical programming. Sunshine Jones helped kick off the action a couple weeks back, and a few more heavyweight bookings are on the calendar through August.

"We chose [TSL Lounge] since it has a wonderful open-air environment and an owner who genuinely enjoys a good time," Joint Custody's Matt Dillon tells Crossfade about the party. "The fact that it's in Wynwood, our favorite part of Miami due to its artistic appeal, is a major plus. Also, it's a venue where people can have a great time without paying massive drink prices."

"The mission is to bring house music by artists who contributed significantly and dynamically to the scene over the years," he explains. "Showcasing people like Sunshine and Doc Martin, who gave life to movements such as the West Coast parties of the '90s, to people like Elon, who throws Resolute, one of the largest underground house parties in New York. We're also bringing Dave Scuba, the talented DJ and experienced label boss who co-runs Superfeq with Mr. C., and [a]pendics.shuffle, the creative visionary who runs Adjunct Audio."

"With the Analog project, Omar and I are big believers in creating a different environment for music than you normally get in Miami," he adds. "Some venues are dark, crowded clubs where it's hard to socialize, and often the creep factor may set in and upset the vibe. We want parties where people feel welcome, are free to breathe, chill, and can enjoy soaking in the music, and can connect without breaking the bank to have a good time."

But beyond mere cheap admission and nice digs for the party, the crew is also looking to transform Miami's underground dance music scene altogether.

"Analog is about our true love of dance music, not about entertaining to make a buck," says Matt. "Music is about giving. As techno tourists, we have traveled the world and seen how dance communities can build off of social interaction in places like London, New York, Amsterdam, Burning Man in Nevada, and others. Fostering a new generation of dance music heads in Miami who are inspired by the music, and bringing forth the great vibes for those who already are -- that is our aim. And we think that Miami is the place to make it a reality."
