Jay Z, Timberlake, Kanye, Madonna Reportedly Boycotting Florida Over Zimmerman Acquittal

It's been nine days since a six-person jury found George Zimmerman not guilty in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

Yet despite President Obama's unscripted personal address to the nation and the possibility of a civil case against Zimmerman, many Americans' anger over the acquittal hasn't dimmed.

In fact, popular outrage continues to flare up. And following Stevie Wonder's announcing that "until the Stand Your Ground law is abolished in Florida, I will never perform there again," it's being widely reported that celebrities like Jay Z, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, and Madonna are joining the Florida boycott.

UPDATE Jay Z and Justin Timberlake are not boycotting Florida. Their Legends of the Summer show in Miami will "will take place as planned," according to Live Nation.

UPDATE #2 George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic tell Crossfade that "we stand in support of the spirit of the 'boycott Florida' movement" and the repeal of "the 'Stand Your Ground' law in ALL states."

I dont pay money to hear  entertainers opinions. I pay good money to hear them sing, dance, etc. Let the music bring people together. This was a horrible situation where no one came out good. The boy is dead and George Zimmerman will never have a normal existence again. The jurors listend to the evidence and made their decision. I am an African American woman who is a mother and I cannot imagine how either set of parents feel! I do not feel as though this should be a racial issue. Why is it?  Someone gets murdered in this country probably every minute of all ages, gender, race and nationality. If the roles were reversed would it be the same?  After reading about the events, listening to the tapes and evidence at that very moment I do think Zimmerman was defending himself. Whether we like it or not. Why punish the whole state of Florida? The jurors did their job. One day, we might find ourselves in the same situation. I think these performers would protest anything for attention and do not mind getting out of their obligations.  Let the show go on!!!  In the reality of things, do these performers really feel for the normal "masses of people?"

LOOKING AT THIS from another angle - this means ALL these BLACK entertainers are OFF-THE-HOOK for participating in a trayvon martin benefit CONCERT to raise "awarenenss" and of course M O N E Y for the trayvon foundation ! ! !

APPARENTLY even uber-riche BLACK people don't want to be part of the trayvon circus nor want to be "asked" to perform "free"

only this way, by boy-cotting, it looks to stupid BLACK people like these artists are "supporting" the trayvon cause when in reality they simply don't want to OBLIGATE themselves to do what they do for M O N E Y to go to anyone else, dead kid's foundation or anyone = period

DO YOU THINK if any of these performers actually came to SANFORD that the "trayvon foundation" wouldn't be outside selling "commemorative" OVERpriced t-shirts for $50 ? ! ?

and wanting to KEEP the proceeds for themselves without cutting the artists IN - or even charging the artist a royalty fee for using JUSTICE FOR TRAYVON copyrights

no people,  this whole STUNT may not be what it appears to be

this publicity stunt will eventually lose steam

i don't BLAME the rappers, and other ENTERTAINERs, since their personal opinions really mean nothing to the GENERAL PUBLIC - we're NOT paying them to have OPINIONs.......... we're paying them TO STEP TO IT and sing and dance and act for our amusement and pleasure .............OR ELSE we will just call IN some other hood ni99a to TAKE THEIR PLACE in a flash of an eye-blink

plus they will lose their endorsement deals from their major sponsors

ONCE THEY REALIZE how much it will actually COST THEM you will see them care MORE for the M O N E Y than any dead kid = period

JAYz and Timberlake are just TWO recent examples as they BOTH will have their AZZES down here come AUG 17th = you'LL sEE !

boycott it all you want, if your so hell bent on a boycott then cancel your south florida shows...if you don't you all just love to talk smack. FL will NEVER change that law so keep trying. So is this a clear example of the blind leading the blind?  More than 92% of that list isn't worth a damn anyway.

I hope they don't show up at the concert so that 70,000 plus people can sue them blind. If they don't want to be here, make sure they don't ever show up at a Miami Heat game, don't come to our hotels, don't come to our state. You aren't even welcome. Half these artists aren't even relevant anymore. Maybe Jay Z should move out of the New York. There have been enough racial crimes there that he should move. And Cali, don't dare go there, racial stuff there all the time. This is comical. Notice that Drake and Flo Rida aren't stupid like these people. Who actually buys tickets to watch Stevie Wonder perform now anyhow?

I am offended that the stars are boycotting FL as a whole, when it was only 6 people who made a decision that a lot of us do not agree with. I for one feel Zimmerman should be in jail for life, but that is just how I feel! So it is unfair to do this to us!!! Think I will change my mind on who I buy cd's from and watch and support on TV!

This is so stupid. First, they are only pleasing the bigots, etc., by NOT coming here. Second, if they really want to effect change, they should MOVE here and register to vote.

Seriously...how does that help any?!...they are not punishing the dumb politicians who made the law, I'm sure all of them could give a flying rats ass if they come or not. Their not even punishing the fans, they are punishing the people who work at these stadium and make income off of stupid little rich artist who feel like they need to grace us with their presence. I am all for getting rid of "stand you ground" law but really....how does that make sense. These artist are just ignorant and stupid as hell.

Oh come on, I'm not fucking responsible for the outcome of the trial. I, however, was one of the people responsible for the show selling out, so how about they respect that.

This is BS. These artists make the bulk of their money touring. 23 US states have this law in effect. They are not going to boycott touring half the country for this cause. Now way! Hypocrites!

frankd4
frankd4 topcommenter

it's NOT only the lawsuits from the GENERAL ticket buying PUBLIC but also the show sponsors like coca-cola and pepsi and all the beer companies who use these events as marketing and promotion of their BRANDs and can CLAIM ACTUAL FINANCIAL loss

is it worth JAYz to pay anheiser-busch tens of millions of dollars in DAMAGEs as a no-show ?

as long as he's ALIVE, JAYz will be here to perform come AUG 17th = period

frankd4
frankd4 topcommenter

relax they will come if they have committed to show AND their major sponsors will pull endorsement deals otherwise - so let this whole public relations crap blow over - when it comes to just a dead kid.............the M O N E Y will come first

frankd4
frankd4 topcommenter

yeah ANY of them that have contractual commitments CANNOT boy-cott without significant lawsuits from the public AND sponsors AND endorsement deals

once other artist step up to replace them you will see them change their position - but for NOW it's just a publicity stunt
