While some are questioning the motives behind his latest business-slash-philanthropic venture, Pitbull's foray into the charter school industry should come as no surprise.

El tipo is a father of six who loves education. He even taught listeners how to count in Spanish with the opening of one of his biggest tracks to date, "I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)."

One, two, three four/Uno, dos, tres, cuatro!

According to the Miami Herald, Armando Christian Pérez has teamed up with Academica to bring SLAM (Sports Leadership and Management) to Little Havana. The privately run public school, which opens next month, will emphasize sports management and boast a strong relationship with the expertly managed Miami Marlins.

"I constantly gave a wrong address to go to a better school," Pit told D.C.'s WUSA 9 last month at the National Charter Schools Conference in Washington. "I don't want anyone in America to have to lie about where they live."

Of course, not everyone thinks that Pitbull is a good spokesperson for education.

Policy reform blog "Mother Crusader" thinks "it is simply mind boggling that Pitbull has been given a charter school in Miami," while the National Education Policy Center questioned the rapper's "misogynistic lyrics and dubious personal behavior."

Enter State Rep. Eric Fresen.

The Miami republican with personal ties to Academica says thinks Pit's heart is in the right place, according to the Herald.

"Armando is a family friend and, more importantly, has three children in high-performing charter schools and believes in them," he said in a statement. "There is no financial motivation. He's very rich on his own right already."

Though he's not as rich as he claims.

Pit was recently called out by Forbes magazine for only making about $9.5 million last year, far less than the billions he raps about in "Feel this moment."

Do you think money motivated Pitbull's charter school, or was it a genuine love for his hometown? Take our poll.

How awful and horrible things written against this guy. It shows a lot of hate in the hearts of all this people. If they would switch their hate to love, their lives would be much more blessed than they are now. I feel pity of all of you. Poor babies.

Ohh look at that a charter school, not a community center to keep kids off the street. Not an after-school program for kids whose parents are too busy working $8 an hour jobs to survive and cant afford a babysitter. Or maybe a scholarship program for inner city or Hispanic kids from poor families to have the opportunity to get a higher education. No this fuck opens what is a private school so he can pocket the profits along with the piece of shit Marlins. I wonder if he needs that money to keep on buying those ill fitting suits. El tipo este parece un fucking pinguino enpericao con la ropita esa, Olle pitbull find a new tailor cause the one you have now is getting your shit wholesale from the Goodwill.

Where do you people get your facts/data to back up your claims about charters? Word of mouth from idiots like you? Charters son un descaro. Una cojioca. Take public money, intended for public purposes, cut costs (like teacher pay), and keep the rest as profit. That's not capitalism. That's cronyism. They cook the numbers. Thy collect the tax money from the state and then kick him to the curb if they think the kid will lower the school's test passing rate or be a discipline problem. That's how they squirm out of most of the challenges the publics have to deal with. It's just a clever way to re-segregate schools. Charters are among the least diverse schools in the country. Y ahora el abnormal este. Escoria, chusma, metralla, hijo de una cualquiera y un marimbero wants in on the action. OK kids, let's analyze the the deep and socially redeeming lyrics behind Pitbull's lyrics. I imagine fathers would love that their daughters are being exposed to quality misogyny and objectification of women at its finest. So empowering. So progressive. And let's make it worse. This hypocrite, petty drug-dealing scum, came out of a public school, just like el otro socotroco Rubio, and now they want to attack the very schools that supported and shaped them. Mercenaries. And the dregs of this community are too stupid to see this scam for what it is. Or probably "birds of a feather", and that's why so much support.

Good for him. I don't see anything wrong with it. Charter schools are closely monitored and typically are even held to a higher standard to ensure their funding.

My daughter goes to a charter school where he is in the board of directors. This is a top performing school and the curriculum is very demanding academically. There is no BSing with the dress code, no hoochie shorts or drooping pants. Boys and girls are REQUIRED to abide by the school's code of conduct or they get 3 strikes and are unceremoniously kicked out. He actually takes his time and goes to talk to the students 3 times a year. I was in the office one of those times and the kids were gathered in the courtyard and he was talking about being proud of who they were, being proud of their community and their families, and that the only way to show the world your pride is through education and by being the best at what you do. If I didn't love me some Mr. 305 then, I certainly do now.

Former drug dealer gives back to the community. How sweet. If he really wants to help the kids he'll stop making music.

My daughter just graduated from a similar school in Tx. These types of schools engage kids in a way that standard schools can not. The reality is there are a lot of ways that kids can become involved in the sports industry besides being an athlete - ways that are a lot more realistic. A school like this can open up the whole world for kids. I'm all for it.

The fact that the charter school is being backed by Academica almost guarantees this venture will perform better than many Dade County Public Schools as they are behind the numerous Somerset Academy charter schools. More free schooling options for the citizens of Dade is a positive whether you're a fan of Pitbull's or not.
