What happened with the Ultra ban?

Well, we won't find out for another two weeks, because the Miami City Commission has just delayed the issue till its next meeting on April 24.

Originally scheduled to be discussed, considered, and voted upon today, the resolution was withdrawn by both sponsors, Mayor Tomás Regalado and Commissioner Marc Sarnoff, just before everybody recessed for a late lunch break.

Tabling this move "prohibiting the Bayfront Park Management Trust from holding the Ultra Music Festival in the future" was initially suggested by Sarnoff.

Then Regalado stepped up to the podium to express his agreement and provide an explanation for the surprise removal of the resolution from today's agenda.

"We heard the concerns of every commissioner, the chairman, Commissioner Suarez, in terms of the wording of the motion," the mayor said. "And everybody wants to discuss, I would love to discuss Ultra. But I think that it satisfies everyone if we discuss this on the next commission meeting."

Regalado added that members of the community had also voiced wishes to be a part of the debate: "We got calls today at the office from merchants at Bayside, saying they would want to come if they were allowed."

The withdrawal itself didn't require a vote. And it was immediately accepted by the commission. However, the mayor made it clear that whatever might be addressed at the April 24 meeting would not be identical to today's motion.

"This will be a different item," Regalado said. "It's not this item. It's a totally different item."

Later, he added: "It will be a discussion item." Or, in other words, not a resolution requiring a vote. But the mayor said: "The discussion item could result in action."

Meanwhile, Ultra Music Festival and its fans continue to fight the ban. And so far, the petition to "Keep UMF in Miami" has 32,408 supporter signatures.

The Miami City Commission will discuss Ultra at 10 a.m. sharp on April 24.

i dont care if ultra leaves but if its going to end up staying at least hold it in a stadium. plenty of room there. bayside/bayfront park is not big enough or an appropriate place to have such a venue like ultra.

This is the Banana Republic that I love sooo dearly. Ok, lets drop some more cash for the city and all of this mess goes away until next year when Sarnoff gets his period again. Focking sapingo

Oh, Lord! We'll have to endure the horrible music of the ultra  Do you know the reason why everyone thinks they can DJ? It’s because everyone can. Pat your head and rub your stomach. There, you’re a DJ.”

take ultra to  Adrienne Arsht Center,The AAA, marlins park or tropical park

Aloha Foods, ultra is not responsible for how the funds get distributed to the people or services of the city of Miami, the leadership of the city is responsible for that. But you're losing credibility rapidly because first you made false accusations that you ignored when asked if you have proof. And now you're trying to blame ultra for something it isn't responsible for by admitting YOU intentionally reneged on payment. Dude, you need to shut up and stop digging yourself a hole.

we use to have food contract for Ultra . and stopped payment on check and would never go back. we care about the residents of Miami , show me how funds were distributed to the city in a positive fashion and we will withdraw our bid. Everything being said is a fact and you can tell anyone affiliated with the event we said to all saying Fuck Aloha.. Blatant negligence takes place and it will needs to cease.

They should ban calle ocho festival there is always theft shooting and is the tackiest festival in the city now that is something they should ban. Not too mention all those random hip-hop and Jamaican festival they do on bayfront which usually have shootings too..

Regalado is a clown. He wouldn't ban Calle Ocho cause it's something he can relate to, being Hispanic. Old out of touch payaso.

BWahhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, So the City of Miami took notice of the public 'pulse" and ran like a dog with tail between legs. In political parlance, 'tabling" an item means, " let's make this go away" without losing too much face. DO ANY OF YOU WANT TO BET that Ultra will be back next year? Bigger and better than ever? DO YOU? Come on!, LOL

I can throw a pretty awesome festival that would be way better than the aloha festival or ultra. We'd have a "throw a rock at a hippie tent", and then we could all sit around with my friend Jim and drink some pbr. Jim know lots of good jokes.

Aloha Foods, I don't think it's a situation requiring a one or the other decision. I also think it's pretty classless trying to trash talk ultras producers just to promote your non proven event. Unless you have proof to support your accusation, do you?

The Aloha festival featuring bands food and yoga which will be proposed can bring in more revenues and gives back to the city of Miami.. Isn't it a conflict of interest that Russ' s dad is in bail bondsmen industry and profits from the arrests? We have done shows at Red Rocks in the past benefitting Parkinson disease and we have no doubt that we can do it better.. Ultra had its run here it is time for a change...Aloha4ever

Of course it was postponed. They don't have the answer to what they'll replace the lost revenue with so none of the commissioners wants to be the bad guy
