Shroud Eater Brings Good Metal to Wynwood Tonight

ShroudEater.jpg
It's no secret that we're big fans of Shroud Eater and we completely resent their criminal lack of recorded goodies for us to enjoy. Last year's EP has done a good job of keeping us entertained. But we are gonna need a full-length effort soon!

Until then, we'll have to binge on the live version. And thanks to a double-booking incident at the Monterey Club, the gals and dude of Shroud Eater have decided to relocate tonight's gig to the band's Wynwood rehearsal space.

Trick Daddy, Miami's own Tupac.
It's been a minute since we heard from Miami's native son, Trick Daddy. As the hip-hop industry focuses its attention on some New Orleans imports invading South Florida, it's easy to forget the OGs in this town.

Yet there's no question that Trick Daddy (AKA Maurice Young) is the godfather of the Miami hip-hop scene. With his 1997 debut Based on a True Story, Trick put Miami on the map. Screw ATL, it's MIA all day! And with songs like "Shut Up," "Nann Nigga," and the crossover hit "I'm a Thug," there was no question that Trick was leading the pack.

So Rick Ross, we know you had some beef with old boy. But Trick is your daddy. Pay respect.

Rick Ross's Miami-Less Tour, Flo-Rida Strikes Platinum Again, and More Hip-Hop News

Carol City's boy wonder, Rick Ross, has just announced plans to tour. The Blowin Money Fast tour will take Ross across the United States before heading abroad to England, Trinidad, Haiti, South Africa, Nigeria, and other far-flung places.

The preliminary tour schedule was released earlier this week and many Miamians may have noticed that Ross hasn't listed any Sunshine State dates. But he occasionally performs for free in Miami and sometimes even throws down a few times a week as it's his homebase. So there's probably no need to fret. The boss will most likely have another local outing sometime soon. [RapRadar]More >>

Mr. 305, Pitbull, had an interesting week. He had a big concert lined up in New York with Drake and Trey Songz to promote the new "So Kodak" campaign. And he also had a video shoot scheduled with T-Pain for Pit's song "Hey Baby." But all of that suddenly came crashing down on Monday when Pitbull fractured his hand at his Miami home. By doctor's orders, he's now on medical rest and standby for the next week as he heals. The video shoot has been postponed for sometime later in October and the New York Kodak concert had to go on without him this past Tuesday. [MTV News]More >>

Rick Ross controversies are back in the news again. It seems that constant foe 50 Cent used his website (ThisIs50.com) to post this unclear video of someone with a close resemblance to Rick Ross in a racy video clip. It was said to have been recorded way before Ross became famous. However, Teflon Don quickly took to Twitter to dispel the tape rumors, saying: "just saw the so called sex tape..the n*gga had a louie flag in back pocket but forgot the tattooes..#fail." So according to Ross, it's not him. Let's see how this turns out. I'm sure it's not the last we'll hear of this sex tape if 50 Cent has anything to do with it. [Allhiphop]

This week BET announced the nominees for its annual Hip Hop Awards, which air on Tuesday October 12th and is hosted by the always hilarious Mike Epps. We had a few Miamians score some nominations, like usual suspects Rick Ross and DJ Khaled, each picking up four noms in various categories, and even going head-to-head with each other in the "Club Banger Of The Year" category.

Miami-based video director David Rousseau also received a nod for the "Director Of The Year" category, a category he's been nominated for in years past. To view the entire list of nominees in all categories click here. Let's hope we bring a couple of those awards back home. [The305]

Behind the Scenes at Pitbull's Video Shoot for "Bon Bon"

Categories: 305 Live, Video

I got a text from my friend Tamar the other day, saying, "You wanna go to a Pitbull video shoot?" Hell yeah! I love Pitbull! I grabbed the Kodak and drove to a studio near Coconut Grove.

Some of the hottest women I have ever seen were walking around in bikinis, chillin' and posing for the cameras. They make money! There was a table with Skittles and ice cold Red Bulls, which I couldn't stop chewing and gulping.

The video itself was directed by a serious up-and-coming Miami filmmaker, David Rousseau. He directed Pitbull's "Calle Ocho," and he has also done videos with Lil Weezy, Enrique Iglesias, and others. Check out behind the scenes footage and an interview with him after the jump (at 3:00).  Pitbull himself was in and out, it ain't easy being Mr. 305.

305 Live: DJ Khaled signs to Cash Money, Rick Ross & Slim Thug seem to now have beef, and more in our Local Hip Hop News

-- Apparently, DJ Khaled's contract with E1 Records (formerly KOCH Records) expired after the release of his latest album Victory, which spawned the ultra successful single "All I Do Is Win". Well, after bring affiliated with them for years, it seems that DJ Khaled has taken steps towards the next stage in his career by signing a record deal Cash Money Records. The label that holds Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj and a long roster of artists, can now call DJ Khaled a labelmate as he is now a part of the family. No word on specific details of the contract, nor if any We The Best related artist will also jump on board with the new deal. However Derick G released photos and video of the actual contract signing, which occurred on a Yacht adorned with about a dozen bikini models standing around and looking pretty. [DerickG]

-- Rick Ross has another opponent to face it seems. Currently, there's no word where his court case with former drug heavyweight "Freeway Ricky Ross stands. And there's no word on the state of his musical battles with the foes 50 Cent and Young Jeezy are. But it seems that by the leaking of an unreleased 2 or 3 year old song called "King Boss" that Rick Ross recorded years ago - Houston's Slim Thug took offense to some of the lyrics that were obvious references to him.

305 Live: Rick Ross vs. Young Jeezy beef, DJ Laz with Radio Lollipop raises $144K and More in Local Hip-Hop News

DJ Craze (photo by David "Dro" Rosario)
-- So it seems that Rick Ross has walked himself into another beef situation. After self-proclaiming victory with 50 Cent, it now seems that Mr. Rozay is aiming his sights towards labelmate and frequent collaborator (via DJ Khaled) Young Jeezy. This all stemmed from Young Jeezy releasing a record called "The Real B.M.F.", that instantly started creating rifts in rumorville. And with Jeezy further fueling the speculation and dropping a freestyle over Ross' version of "B.M.F.", Rick Ross responded with a track of his own called "The Summer's Mine". To some it all up, it's a lot of back and forths about who knows and doesn't know actual drug kingpins. All in all, it seems like all of this could've all been avoided with a simple phone call and/or mediation session. Listen to Rick Ross' subliminal diss record by clicking here. [OnSmash]

-- DJ Craze interviewed recently with KiloKilo.tv and talks about a variety of topics including how he started out, befriending A-Trak, entering the Drum-N-Bass world and much more. Also look out for Craze's new EP, which should drop around October. [The305]

Video: Majesty's Old-School Miami Flavor

Hialeah_Latin_Club_Oct_25_with_misspelled_name_-262x356.jpg
Gotta love that bygone era!

It is no secret that I am completely giddy with the upcoming reunion show of the legendary Coke this coming Saturday. So in honor of the Miami bands that created and paved the way of the real Miami Sound, here's a video clip from a jam earlier this year by equally legendary outfit Majesty performing a pair of Santana covers.

These guys hail from the same era that gave this town the aforementioned Coke, the Antiques, Mantrap, and Clockwork all outfits that I'll revisit through my ongoing Blast From the Past series within this blog.

In this video are original members Carlos Hernandez on guitar and Guillermo Sanchez on congas. The young man rocking the living shit out of the timbales is Roly Bazan, nephew of original drummer Tony "Cuco" Perez who sadly passed away this year after a long illness. The current outfit recently had a gig at the Lakes Café.

Miami has such a diverse and rich musical heritage and while the whole world went weird with "disco" during the '70s, Miami-styled disco owed more to Latin and funk rhythms than glitter balls and rampant drug abuse. (However, the latter will forever be tough image to shake, thanks to Miami Vice and the cocaine wars of the '80s.)

In the meantime, enjoy how these guys own these Santana standards in the pure pursuit of a righteous jam after the jump!
