This Sunday, more than 100 nonprofit arts and community organizations will participate in Fall for the Arts Festival, a daylong open house of culture. "We wanted all the arts organizations in the city and others to come together to meet face to face with the community," says Andrew Goldberg, Arsht's VP of marketing.
Goldberg says Miami's performing arts and culture scene is capturing the attention of national players in theater and opera, and the idea behind the festival is to bring the city's offerings together for even more exposure. "We know there are rich and diverse arts in the community. And there is enough of an audience to go around," he added. Goldberg also says it made sense to invite community groups to the festival as they often collaborate with arts groups on projects and personnel. "We hope people learn about the opportunities out there to volunteer."
While the main reason for the event is for people to meet their arts and community organizations, Goldberg says that the outdoor festival makes the experience more enjoyable. Stages will feature a smattering of different musical genre's including urban Latino funk band Ozomatli, hip-hop acts, and a Japanese drumming extravaganza akin to Stomp. Also, look for children's activities, seminars and workshops, and special ticket deals on upcoming shows. Plus there will be more than 30 gourmet street-food vendors curated by Miami's renowned Burger Beast.
