100. Ingrid Bazin

Ingrid Bazin adds soul to our sometimes-soulless Miami nightlife. Born in Jamaica to a preacher father and a teacher mother, IngridB made her way stateside in 1984 from Barbados, where she grew up. In 2001, BSide Entertainment was born, fusing Ingrid's love for poetry with her passion for soul music. A national expert on all things soul, IngridB has worked as a producer for Lyric Café on BETJ and CentricTV. She can also be seen using her skills as host and promoter of three weekly events: the Soulcial, a live music extravaganza; the Bohemia Room, a spoken-word night; and Flow Fridays, an open-mike throwdown.

With three weeklies, Ms. B could probably use her own venue (she's working on it). Just like her events, though, there's more to Ingrid than meets the eye. She has a 19-year-old daughter and "a small circle of friends who are like family, a large circle of associates who are like friends, and Soulcialites who support me." She also knows how much these people helped shape who she is today. "Everything I am doing now is because others saw something in me. I am still growing and learning all my talents. I am the B side." 1. List five things that inspire you.

- Bearing witness to the amazing talents of the poets, singers, and musicians who perform at my events.
- The appreciation for what I do from my attendees.
- The process of seeing an idea of mine come to life.
- The sight of others actively pursuing their passion.
- The fabulousness of my daughter and her friends and how they defy everything that people say about the future of today's youth.

2. What was your last big project?
Working as the poet producer for the last two seasons of the Lyric Café TV show.

3. What's your next big project?
The Bohemia Room will be a part of the national promotion for the movie For Colored Girls. We will be conducting a poetry slam and event dedicated to the book/movie October 27.

4. Why do you do what you do?
Because I love it.

5. What's something you want Miami to know about you? What's something you don't want Miami to know about you?
I do events for those who are tired of and/or looking for an alternative to the club scene. I have developed a shoe addiction, and I wear a 9.5 narrow, and I'm not offended by gifts.
I still get nervous before I get onstage. I'm shy.
