Designer Nektar de Stagni is an odd fish, not because she's strange or crazy, but because she's a woman from Miami Beach with genuinely glamorous and approachable high-style.
The young fashion maven isn't just a lady who looks fierce in her own clothes, though, she's also the director and head designer of NDS, her accessories and ready-to-wear line that she runs with her boyfriend, artist Martin Oppel.

Her jewelry is both bold and elegant. The newest line, Serpents & Pearls, plays with proportion and is composed of natural elements, including enameled shark teeth.

"The current collection is influenced by serpent representations in ancient jewelry and nautical themes," according to de Stagni, "most of my work also explores a tension between opposites. This is evident in pieces like our pearl necklace with shark teeth, or crystal woven onto industrial rope." It's all very lovely, wearable and most of all, desirable.

Located in the Design District, the NDS space not only houses de Stagni's well-crafted designs, but also serves as a space where other artists, designers, and creatives host events.
Recently, NDS was home to a pop-up shop for local music festival So Raw, which featured records from bands like Thee Oh Sees and Box Elders, homemade zines, and tchotchkes of the good sort. See the slideshow here.

So Raw's rougher and edgy forms of artistic communication were displayed alongside de Stagni's delicate necklaces, earrings, and garb. Other talented designers showcased at NDS include Confetti System, Lauren Manoogian, Bless, Emma Carroll, Femke De Vries, and others. De Stagni was also noted as Miami New Times' 2008 Best Designer and NDS has received has recognition from the New York Times, Nylon, and Wallpaper.

The designer moonlights as a DJ under the quirky pseudonym Faux Real. When she does blast the music, one is inclined to stop mid-sip and remark, "where'd she get this!?" and then hunt her down for a song name or artist. De Stagni is a true Miami tastemaker and NDS is just about as classy and rad as South Florida fashion gets.

1. List five things that inspire you.

-Haitian church ladies
-Mark Twain
-Vintage Decter mannequins
-Dracula
-Neuro-marketing (have you heard about this? So crazy)

2. What was your last big project?

Launching our new online shop, and finishing the Serpents & Pearls Collection!

3. What's your next big project?

The next big project we are putting together is "NDS MARKET," an expanded version of last year's "Jewelry Salon" that will include carefully selected designers, artists editions, music, and publications. The products, will be thoughtfully displayed, like a playful "open air market" inside our shop, with an emphasis on some the best creative talent Miami has to offer. The Market will also be a new feature of the online store.

4. Why do you do what you do?

Because "God" told me to. ;) And I suspect it has to do with being OC.

5. What's something you want Miami to know about you?

That I also DJ, so make sure to book me for your next bar mitzvah, wedding, or birthday.

What's something you don't want Miami to know about you?

That I probably won't play your request of that crappy song you think you like.
