|It's Ricky Martin, Yo!|
hen you think of Ricky Martin, you probably think, "hubba, hubba!" The former boy-band hunk of singing love is no longer just a pretty face and vibrating glutes, he's also a deep and thoughtful author of a new autobiography. The singer is coming out of the dark, as Gloria Estefan might say, not only about his sexuality, but also about his spirituality, and the journey he's been on to overcome his fears.
Today at 4 p.m. the Grammy winner will be promoting Yo
, or Me
in English, at Books & Books
. His autobiography explores his early childhood, performing in Menudo, and being all famous and stuff. He also writes about his twin sons and how, just this year, he admitted to the world that he is gay. Very gay. Just to be polite, we acted surprised.
Martin won't be chatting about his vida loca
, but rather autographing his memoir, a book that Deepak Chopra called, a "story of a tortured soul who healed himself by returning to the state of innocence and authenticity." The spiritual leader went so far as to say, "it is only this kind of courage and this kind love that can heal the world. Bravo!" Heavy.
Of the bon-bon shaker's signing, Books & Books' co-founder Mitchell Kaplan said, "We're really excited about it. There's lots of anticipation, and the phones are ringing off the hook." Listen, boys, don't get too excited, Martin told Oprah that he's in a relationship with a dude that's not you, so relax on the flirtation when you meet the guy.
Vouchers are required for Ricky's autograph, and come with the $26.95 book in Spanish or English. Walk-by pictures are allowed, so bring your digital camera and biggest smile. And remember, this is a bookstore, so no booby autographs and hysterical screaming, seriously.
