Bass Museum Launches New Monthly Happy Hour, Beats After Sunset

The museum's Executive Director and Chief Curator Silvia Karman Cubiña said, "This monthly Friday night happening is a fantastic opportunity for people interested in art, music, and culture to meet and have a good time."

Recent upgrades to the property have allowed the Bass to fully embrace its location on the beach. The change of its entrance from the back door, which faces apartment buildings, to entering from the Atlantic is also a nice touch. You could literally jump out of the ocean, wander across a parking lot, and enter a world of truly impressive visual stimuli.
One major perk of Beats After Sunset is that once you're in the museum, you can have more than just a glimpse of the art; you have two hours to enjoy whatever's showing (if you've taken your Adderall). The current exhibition features video work by Isaac Julien, including the installation artist's Ten Thousand Waves, and films and photographs from earlier works, which will be up through March 6.
Each month, Beats will feature a different DJ, a mixologist serving a select liquor with a variety of drink options, and, most importantly, something edible. For tonight's, Tasha from the TM Sisters and DJ Hugo will be creating the soundtrack as you suck down Herradura tequila drinks, which will be sopped up by the inexpensive tropical tacos in your belly.
The inaugural Beats After Sunset is free, but the following first Fridays will be free for members only. Non-members can pay the cost of museum admission, a mere $8. The festivities run from 8 to 10 p.m. at Bass Museum ( 2100 Collins Ave., Miami Beach). Call 305-673-7530 and visit bassmuseum.org.
