At this year's festival, they commissioned a dozen such teams. And in place of programs like CCCV stories, many of shorts feature local musicians and Miami artists and filmmakers. Don't think of them as music videos but as music-inspired shorts. In one, performance artist Jillian Mayer collaborates with Cocaine Cowboy filmmakers, Rakontur, as well as the next mayor of Miami, Luther Campbell of 2Live Crew.
Check out the full list of the collaborators:
- Sean Metelerkamp (of Die Antwoord "Zef Side" fame) + Jacuzzi Boys
- Rakontur + Uncle Luke + Jillian Mayer
- Barry Jenkins (Medicine for Melancholy) + Millionyoung
- Lucas Leyva + Coral Morphologic + ANR + Rosie Herrera
- Fro Rojas + Keyla De La Cerda
- Franco Parente + Giovanni Profera + Sebastian Fabal
- Andres Mesa Valdez + Diego Mesa Valdez + Rachel Goodrich + Amigo the Devil
- Waverly Films (from Brooklyn) + Otto Von Schirach
- Jorge Rubiera (yay! One of our MasterMind winners!) + Animal Tropical
- Samuel Lopez de Victoria + Peasants with Feathers
In addition to the above, look for cinema work by Joey Daoud (Bots High), Andrew Hevia (Adventures of a Sexual Miscreant), Jonathan Kane (Tony Tango), Marco Ramirez (Sons of Anarchy) and Tarell McCraney, the Royal Shakespeare Company's playwright in-residence. Borscht Film Festival takes place April 23 at the Arsht Center's Knight Concert Hall but festival events start as early as April 9. Visit borscht.info.
