Mastermind 2012 Honorable Mention: Jolt Radio
Screw New Times. We wanna work at Jolt Radio! The online radio station is based in the 305, and its number one priority is to push the local music scene as far as possible. After putting their pennies together from the street, couch cushions, and linty dryers, the station's founders hired a web designer and started their own site.
Due in part to Jolt Radio's presence on the local music scene, more and more people have become curious about the sounds synthesized in Miami. These days, the website is jam-packed (pun intended) with interviews, features, and loads of information on the city's art and music scenes.
In addition to streaming local music all day long, Jolt Radio also has an artist of the month series. Most recently, they've showcased street artists Morley, Kazilla, and local upcoming fashion designer Susana Alvarado. "We think that being there to be that support is clearly necessary," Caignet says.
Jolt's simple concept -- jam, enjoy, support the 305 -- is essentially the audio version of what we at Cultist try to do in words and pictures. So jam on, Jolt. Jam on.
