Miami Graffiti Bike Tour Tomorrow Benefiting Magic City Bike Collective

Besides a group that promotes cycling, a "bike collective" is a workshop with free use of tools, spare parts, and volunteers that help you build or fix your own bike for the low price of a suggested donation.

Like, out of the goodness of their bike-loving hearts.

The Magic City Bike Collective, opening June 30 on 11th Street and North Miami Avenue, is just such a place.

And to raise money they're showing off the best street art in the city on a Miami Graffiti Bike Tour.

The tour meets tomorrow, Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Government Center, and roams through Wynwood and the Midtown area on a predetermined route with stops at the best walls and information on the artists who painted them. Olga Cano and Dario Gonzalez will lead the tour. At 2 p.m. the ride ends at the Magic City Bike Collective's new headquarters with raffles and a tour of the new space.

Eric Madrid of the MCBC explains, "It's pretty much a community-driven, volunteer-operated workshop where we encourage people to learn how to work on their own bikes."

Afterward, you can go across the street to The Corner, and grab a pint of IPA (or water), and talk about the awesome Frankenbike you're gonna build. The Miami Graffiti Bike Tour costs $5, but you can donate as much as you want.

And lest you doubt the need for such a space, Miami's Critical Mass rides are quickly approaching 2,000 cyclists. That's 4,000 wheels on the road, which makes now a good time to learn how to change that tire yourself.

Awesome write up! I know the volunteers of the Magic City Bicycle Collective personally and they are some of the most "well to do" and informed cycling activists this community has. We are lucky to have them share their ideas and provide us with a space to get together and educate ourselves ultimately making Miami a better, greener, and safer place for everyone. /J
