Hotline Miami Lets Gamers Commit Random Acts of Violence in 1980s Miami

Upcoming game Hotline Miami is a send-up of Miami at its most neon, '80s, and bloody, courtesy of Dennaton Games and Devolver Digital. The minute-long announcement trailer shows the top-down retro-styled shooter in all its GTA-reminiscent glory. You receive assignments to kill people from the titular hotline, presented to you by...barnyard animals?

As Joystiq noted, it "isn't going to do much for Florida tourism."

Step into the neon-soaked underground of 1980s Miami as bizarre messages on your answering machine seem to be urging you to commit terrible acts of violence -- but will you obey? Hotline Miami overflows with raw brutality and skull crushing close combat as you find yourself outgunned and using your wits to choreograph your way through impossible situations. ... Bash and blast through over 20 multiscreen levels with 35 unique weapons and collect 25 game-altering masks in one of the darkest and most unusual independent games on the scene.

No word on if bath salts are to blame, or how much "Miami" there actually is to explore other than some Don Johnson acid nightmare. According to Destructoid, the game is planned for PC and Mac, with possible console versions in the works.

There's no official release date yet, but you don't have to wait too long to take part in the ultraviolet, ultraviolent action: Hotline Miami has set up a phone number -- 786-519-3708 -- and Twitter account (@HotlineMiami) so you can leave your own messages. Who knows if they'll be used for the actual game or marketing purposes -- we just hope they have a few "se compran carros" junk car messages, for authenticity's sake.
