Jeanine Mason, winning So You Think You Can Dance in 2009.
After she won the fifth season of So You Think You Can Dance, Jeanine Mason, the Miami-born dancer who ranks among the show's most popular contestants, told reporters that she'd be putting down her dancing shoes to study journalism at UCLA -- kind of an anticlimactic end to a series in which contestants constantly talk about being "born to dance."

So fans will undoubtedly get all squealy over the news that Mason is returning to TV -- this time as an actress.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Mason has booked a gig as a recurring character on ABC Family's teen drama, Bunheads.

The show focuses on -- what else -- the workings of a ballet studio in the coastal town of Paradise (yes, Paradise), with wholesome plot points strung between its owner, teachers, and students. Mason, along with new actor Niko Pepaj, will play "close-knit siblings, a well-traveled, educated and artistic duo who are new to the town of Paradise."

I'll be honest -- I tried watching Bunheads once after hearing critics rave about it, and was mostly bored and annoyed. But hey, it's nice to see Miami folks in the spotlight.

One piece of advice, though, Jeanine: The show was developed by Amy Sherman-Palladino of Gilmore Girls fame, and features that same rapid-fire dialogue that delighted/annoyed viewers for years. So start practicing your speed-talking, like, now.
