Want to Win $1,000? Submit to New Times' Mastermind Awards!

If you're like most of us here at New Times, your bank account could really use a boost. The ever-tightening purse strings of the publishing industry has left plenty of our journalists and bloggers with just about the same quality of life as your average starving artist in Wynwood.

Those starving artists do have one edge on New Times staffers, though: They're eligible to apply for our annual Mastermind awards, offering cold hard cash (and citywide recognition, which artists could parlay into even more cash) to Miami's most talented creatives.

(We'd apply if we could, but that's apparently a "conflict of interest." Pffft.)

New Times' Mastermind Awards seeks to give back to Miami's cultural community in the form of city-wide recognition and some sweet, sweet cash. Last year, New Times' editors and experts from the 305's cultural community selected three winners from among nearly 150 hopefuls: experimental arts collective The End/SPRING BREAK; Internet-obsessed artist and filmmaker Jillian Mayer; and DIY punk label Drugged Conscience Records.

This year, we're continuing the search for the best artists, musicians, filmmakers, and other culture producers in the Magic City. Mastermind grants of $1,000 will be given to this year's winners at Artopia, New Times' annual arts soiree, on Feb. 28. But to be considered, you have to let us know who you are. Here's how to apply.

To be considered, send us the below before January 17:

  • Your name
  • Contact info: phone, email, and home address
  • Short bio
  • Description of your work
  • Your Artwork, either via a link to a website or in emailed images

Email all of the above to masterminds@miaminewtimes.com by January 17. Finalists will be announced February 14, and winners will be announced at our annual art soiree, Artopia, on Feb. 28. Good luck!
