Wood Tavern Invites You To Draw On Its Walls
Graffiti is everywhere in Miami: on signposts, highway overpasses, bathroom stalls. Perhaps that's more true in Wynwood than anywhere else, where street art hangs beside traditional works in the galleries and giant, complex murals often outshine the culture indoors.
Wood's outside bar's getting a facelift. Wanna help?
Now, you can add your voice to the visual chorus. Tomorrow, Wood Tavern is inviting its patrons to create their own works of art on its own walls in an event they're calling "1,000 Sharpies."
Wood Tavern owner Cesar Morales is calling all artists, or just artist wanna-bes, to congregate at the bar tomorrow, April 17. According to the Lombardi Properties blog, the public will have just two hours, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to make their mark on a wall of the building behind the tavern.
Acceptable scrawlings: cartoons, sketches, scribbles, and quotes. Unacceptable scrawlings: anything with a rating higher than PG-13. Keep it classy for the kids, y'all.
Morales will be making a video of the event, so show up camera-ready. And don't worry -- Wood's providing the Sharpies -- 1,000 of them, true to the event's name, in red and black.
1,000 Sharpies runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17 at Wood Tavern, 2531 NW Second Ave., Miami. Call 305-748-2828 or visit woodtavernmiami.com.
