Five Reasons It's Great to Be Single in Miami

RelationshipRehab.jpg
Each week, Miami dating expert Nikki Novo gives us advice on finding love in this hopeless place. Today: Chin up, Miami singles -- flying solo in the Magic City is actually pretty great.

The grass is always greener on the other side, right? Many times, couples want some freedom, and singles want a partner. But rather than wish our situation were different than what it is, let's see the good and acknowledge it. Why? Because none of us are going to receive great things until we recognize what we have. Think of it as shaking what the universe gave ya.

For those of you who consider being single a disease a death sentence, listen up: This time is so much greater than that. Give it the importance it deserves. Before you know it, you'll be trading in drinks at Nobu with friends for Friday nights at home, eating pizza, and watching another not-so-great movie on demand with your holey t-shirt-wearing significant other. Don't call me to reminisce about the good 'ole single days then!

Today's post is all about appreciating what you have, and taking advantage of this sacred time in your life. You're single, and that's pretty awesome. Just ask the married couple down the hall. And if you don't believe them, here are five reasons why your relationship status is something worth enjoying-- especially when you live in Miami.

1. You Decide When to Be Alone
Quick, cue the heavenly angel music. Alone time is perhaps what coupled-up people miss the most. I know you may feel like you have enough alone time for a lifetime, but if you use that time correctly, you can create great things for yourself, others, and um, the world. Write that book. Start that business. Search for what makes you happy. Make random conversation. The options are endless, because you're in complete control of your time. Use it wisely.

Plus, when living in Miami, you never really need to be alone. There are tons of community events, classes, social gatherings, and indie coffee shops filled with people just like you. You are only alone if you tell yourself you are.

2. You Can Travel as You Please
So maybe you don't have the cash to go on your own personal Eat Pray Love tour. Fine. But have you ever thought about checking out your surroundings? Sure, getting out of Florida will take you about 10 hours of driving, but there's so much in between here and Georgia. St. Augustine, Amelia Island, Caladesi Island Park (bet you haven't heard of that one!), and Apalacholia National Forest are just a few spots worth exploring.

And yes, you can do all of these Florida expeditions with your future partner. But what if he/she is great in all aspects of life, except in the department of spontaneous travel? Or worse: what if s/he only likes to road trip to Walt Disney World? Bad traveling can happen to good people. Take advantage now.
