Watch Michael Bay's Embarrassing Breakdown on Stage in Las Vegas (Video)

Poor Michael Bay. All he wanted to do was shill for some fancy new TV at a tech conference in Las Vegas, adding even more money to his heaps of cash from the Transformers films and Victoria's Secret ads.

But when the Miami-obsessed director took the stage at the International Consumer Electronics Show yesterday, his teleprompter failed. And that's when the world learned that while Bay has many talents -- directing CGI robots, casting hot chicks, styling his Michael Bolton-esque hair -- those talents do not include improvisational public speaking.

You can tell Bay's not really feeling the vibe from his splashy entrance to the stage. The presentation is clearly meant to simulate an off-the-cuff conversation between two experts in the world of film and technology, but Bay destroys that illusion by stepping on his co-host's first line.

"Uh, my job, as a director, is to dream for a living," he says, before taking a breath and looking to the event host for help.

That, apparently, was enough to confuse the teleprompter. "Ugh, the type is all off, but I'll just wing this," Bay groans. "We'll wing it right now," his co-host agrees.

But it turns out that Bay can't think of a single thing to say about the product he's selling. "Winging it" is hard to do when you're only in it for the paycheck. So instead, after a lot of sighing, wringing of hands, and awkward silences, Bay just walked off the stage. Oops.

Later that day, Bay apologized on his blog for the incident:

Wow! I just embarrassed myself at CES - I was about to speak for Samsung for this awesome Curved 105-inch UHD TV. I rarely lend my name to any products, but this one is just stellar. I got so excited to talk, that I skipped over the Exec VP's intro line and then the teleprompter got lost. Then the prompter went up and down - then I walked off. I guess live shows aren't my thing.

But I'm doing a special curved screen experience with Samsung and Transformers 4 footage that will be traveling around the world.

We're guessing Bay won't be lending his name to any more "awesome," "stellar" products for awhile.
