The Average Girl's Guide to Swim Week: Ten Events You Can Actually Attend
Folks in the fashion industry aren't as vain as you think. Sure, they fancy a good fashion show of bronzed beauties gliding down a white, cold runway in swimsuits baring minimal coverage -- but it's not always about envy and Lycra monokinis for them.
Sometimes, it's about what happens after the shows come to a halt. Come on, you know what we're talking about: it's the ragers, the bougie exclusivity - dammit, it's the complimentary drinks.
The parties thrown during Swim Week are on another level of epic. But sadly, to get into the majority of these events, you have to know somebody who knows somebody who knows the sister of the promoter throwing the event. In simple terms: its near impossible to squiggle you're way into one of these things.
Luckily, we've rounded up a couple of happenings just as fabulous, if not moreso, than their private party primos; some of which don't even require a swipe of a credit card or the scent of dolla-dolla bills y'all.
Here are the events during MBFW that you -- yes, you -- can get into. Have fun, you crazy kids!
So maybe you didn't get into the Mara Hoffman show this year -- so what? At Funksion: Fashion Week Miami Beach, you get to experience a four-day and night mini-fashion week of runway shows by brands like Barraca Chic, OMG Miami Swimwear, and Soah Swim at the SLS Hotel from July 16th - 19th. Last night, the event opened with a Peroni Emerging Designer Series presenting ten finalists and their Italian-inspired designs. The show was presented by none other than the non-profit organization Fashion Group International; and that's only the beginning -- the rest is yet to come. Just make sure to jump on that VIP list at funkshionfw.eventbrite.com.
In its fourth year, the fashion show fundraiser is set to tell a heroic tale about fashion through lofty gazelles posing as models, dressed in top-dog names like Trina Turk, a capsule collection featuring Style Mafia, swimwear line Kai Lani, Dany Santiago, and Del Toro, to name a few. But perhaps the best part of it all: the open bar. What's more are the free cupcakes they'll be generously doling out from Stella's Sweet Shoppe. Can we say score? Tickets to get into the anticipated event are $150 at the door, but if you snag them up in advance at stylesaves.org they're $125 - we know, it's a steep price to pay for a one-time event. But the benevolence behind this soiree is priceless.
Scavenger hunts aren't just for kids anymore. And on Saturday, July 19th, you'll get to relive your childhood memories all over again by playing a little round of the go-to birthday game while attending Fashion Sense at Sense Beach House from 6pm-9pm. Instead of looking for generic treasures like a toothbrush or an old sock, however, each mission will be completed by taking snapshots with designers like Mamie Ruth and posting said pictures up on social media outlets like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Should you be named the victor, a free lunch at the Local House in Sense Beach House and gratis merch from featured designers at the event will be awarded to you. Of course, there'll be gratis bevies to match that fresh, gratis merch of yours. You can RSVP at firstname.lastname@example.org
