Alvarez a No-Show at the NAACP

It’s unclear whether Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez declined the invitation or if it was rescinded, but at last night’s NAACP meeting at the Joseph Caleb Center, the man was not there. The uproar of last month’s meeting, which featured a defiant Roosevelt Bradley protesting the forced end of his tenure as county transit director, was also absent.

Instead, a debate between North Miami mayoral candidates Kevin Burns and Jean Monestime featured candid questions about gang violence, the local drug trade, and affordable housing initiatives. Except for a few sarcastic barbs thrown by Burns, the incumbent, the event was... uneventful.
